Winter Tires & Wheels

Hey folks!

It’s almost that time of year, so what are you doing this winter with your tires/wheels? Staggered or square? Anyone know of any good packages? I wouldn’t mind 19” staggered but it might get expensive. Any wheel reco’s?

Thanks!

I went with a 19x8.5 235/40/19 square set up on replica black 791m wheel and Pilot PA4 tires. They were pretty awesome last season!

I just sold my car and have a barely used set of Haaka's. Square setup. Located in Montreal.

Lug pattern won't fit a G20.

Good to see you Burr...I’m leaning toward the PA4’s or sottozero’s. Where did you get the tires/wheels? Which brand are the replicas?

I got them from Tires23 in Mississauga. The replicas are OE+ (they even come with BMW centre caps).

What are you guy's doing for TPMS?
My guess replicas not gonna have them.

I have pretty fresh set of Sottozeros 255/45R17 on replicas, coming from my 328d, but they likely will not fit over M-brakes, and there were no TPMS on F30.

My set came with aftermarket tire pressure sensors. They pair up perfectly and I can still read each individual tire pressure setting through iDrive.

Also your lug pattern is different on the G20 so you won't be able to use those rims.

No extra charge for the TPMS? How much did the whole setup set you back? Toto gave me a quote today for $2900, 19” staggered on a good looking set of wheels but no sensors.

I paid somewhere around that as well. The sensors were thrown in (they are cheap...$20 per sensor or something like that).

Just wondering, if you have an update on what you decided, I'm assuming replica wheels and TPMS with Pilot Alpines? or Sottozero’s?

Me personally, I put Sottozero 3’s on the OEM rims and this will be my second winter season with them. Not bad for tires, but talyored more for cold/dry roads plowed snow roads. Still perfer my old Michelin X-Ice's 2 for deeper snow but it seems they don't make them in the size.

Happy Hunting, and enjoy your first winter!

I was thinking to get the 228 wheel style https://www.bmwstylerims.com/bmw-wheel-style-216/ however I'm a bit lost with the offset, I know these where orginally intended for the E90s but they just look so good. I would have them with Continental WinterContact TS 860 S. Any experience with these tires? They cost a small fortune ...so need to be sure before i buy

X3 with M Sports - First Timer - Amateur Question

Our situation is very unique and need some expert guidance from you guys!
Thanks in advance !!!

We took over a lease from our colleague for his X3 with M Sports package
275/40/20 and 245/45/20 with Summer on them.

The lease period left is only 18 more months. So, I'm not sure of few things and hence need some guidance -

1. I don't want to spend exorbitant money on RIMS & Tires (2000$+) on a car which I will keep only for 18 months. What cheapest options do I have to clear this winter (I stay in Burlington and don't travel so much up north).

2. What happens if I purchase any of used RIMS and tires with 5x112 bolt size and mount on them?

3. How do I know they will clear the M brakes?

Thank you very much !!!

Not sure if BMW 3 series owners would know tires about X3 Owners here unless they own both vehicles. Why not consider speaking with local tire shop for details..

I’m still figuring it out. So many more 18” abs square options but I’d like to keep the 19” staggered setup but it does cost up to $1k more. I’m still leaning to the Sotto Zero’s or likely the Pilot Alpines but there are some deals out there on the x-Ice. With covid my wife is trying to convince me to not bother since we could just use the suv in the winter but I’d have to buy them next year anyway. I plan to make a decision this week. If anyone has a recent decision please share.

Hey Burr do you know who you dealt with at Tires23? Any chance it was Billy?

Billy owns the place, but I deal with Terry all the time. He's awesome and knows cars (what works what doesn't).

I didn’t even think of asking you did you keep your 235 winters?? Because I’ll take them! Did you notice much of a difference going square in the winter? I’ve been thinking staggered but maybe harder to sell 2 sets of 2 when my lease is done.

Unfortunately the winters went with the car since the dealership cut me a cheque to buy new winter rims/tires for the RS5.

I didn't notice a difference going with a square setup, but winter tires are obviously not as sharp feeling especially compared to the Pilot Sport 4S's...although the Pilot Alpin PA4's that I had as the winter setup, were amazing (I'm ordering another set right now for the RS4 only in 275 width square...so expensive!! argh ). I would not go with a staggered set. You can't rotate them, and for winter I honestly don't think it's needed. The 235 square set up (over the more common 225 square setup) is perfect in my opinion.
