I have to see it in person because it is absolutely not photogenic.

I dont get it, the design is clearly a takeaway from the 8 Series on a reduced size scale. Had they use the wider style kidney grilles from the 8 series the car would be very nice to look at.

It's a joke, chill man.

Not my fault you have poor taste and low standards.

See, thats me, being mean and petty.

Also, its a discussion board, and I'll discuss how much this "design" disgusts me.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about, this car is stunning - fresh, but stunning. Any negativity comes from a place of subjectivity (obviously), but it's very unfair to the manufacturer that has every right to produce the product they feel will do well in the market place. They won't ever please everybody...

+1

Put me on the camp of liking it. It is unique and, dare I say, beautiful. The side view looks like the Infiniti which is not super cool. The back is spectacular with the L tail lights and the in-your-face black diffuser.

It has kind of grown on me since seeing the first leaked photos. And yet, as with most contemporary BMW models, it just seems "not bad." For me there are too many fantastic options out there to settle for "not bad." BMW is a great company, and I'm hoping this is a "revolution" phase of their designs that will evolve into something truly outstanding. Ever since about the F10 they just remind me of rats or beavers from the front for some reason.

I said it in the other thread but BMW probably didn't make the front look like the 8 as to not piss of their 8 series customers. I'm guessing 8 series customers don't want people on the street mistaking their expensive 8 for a lowly 4... not that I necessarily agree with it but I'm sure that's partly why they didn't go this route.

With that said, I do think the front isn't bad. I think it looks pretty good in the track footage, while in motion.

Still looking forward to the G80.

I think it's alright, I'll have to see it in person to judge it completely.

I think the design will look better on the M4, the front seems too aggressive compared to the rest on the 4 series.

They often do this around launch time . Very on-message and very deliberate tactics, over-using words like 'essence', 'dynamic' and 'iconic', to appeal to us enthusiasts. Very predictable.
BMWs DNA gets more and more diluted with every new generatio, and the design of this new 4 is a prime example. They're still better drivers than their direct competition, but as they soften everything up to suit global market tastes, the gap is a lot narrower than it used to be. So disappointing overall.

Grill wrecks it for me. After 330i, 335i, M3, x40i I'm moving on

I'm afraid I find the grill horrible and try hard. After 4 straight bimmers I'm looking to Porsche or Jaguar for my next car in a few months. I'd waited for this in case I liked it.

As the 3 series design became larger and wider, elongated kidney grills punctuated the front end nicely. It works for the f3* (and g20) because the grills mostly reside on the horizontal axis. With the more vertical grills, it's hard to imagine the front end and hood appearing continuous with the rest of the car.

The F32, and f82 looked more like sporty, streamlined luxury coupes. This version will need to look more like a brash muscle car to better incorporate the grill design. I think the g8* might do somewhat better with these grills, assuming the Ms have a more muscular look.

I like it. You can't keep things stagnant. Remember when everyone trashed the bangle 7 series and then it went on to become the best selling 7 series up to that point? The chairman of BMW said at the time that you need to have a revolutionary design every so often, and then you go back to evolutionary designs for a while.

The rear quarter panel is weird , maybe it's better irl but I think the M3 will look more balanced. I am more sad about backwards non round tachometers than the grill tbh

The grill is there solely to distract you from how bland the rest of the car is. They took a 10 year old Inifiniti and put something outlandish on the front, that doesn't look like it even belongs on any car. The grill looks like it should be on a bus or semi.

One of the very small things I like about this 4er is that it looks so different at the front from the rest of the range. So it should be pretty easy to tell that it's a 4er when seen through a rear view mirror.

The Audi interior doesn't look a whole lot different than BMWs and that Benz interior is too busy, in my opinion.

Still don't understand why they kept the hood line like this, the concept hood looks way better.
