2018 Z06
Thinking about picking up a 2018 Z06 for some fun summer use. Curious about how the driving experience is and if it’s different enough than the m4 to justify. My M4 is daily use all year/winter. Ty!

I can’t speak exactly to the Z06, but had a standard C7 for a few years and loved it. I would say the Z06 absolutely justifies the purchase in terms of difference to the driving of the M4. The raw power of the V8 (in your case supercharged) is just fantastic.

I have a C6 Z06 but it's closer to a C7 in terms of performance. I can say 100% it's a different driving experience. I enjoy my M3, but i'd take the vette everywhere everyday if it were practical.

Both are performance cars but IMHO, the z06 is a weekend warrior and your M3/M4 is your fast daily. z06 sounds incredible. The BMW sounds ok (unless you're just a BMW fanboy but the S58 does NOT sound good). One has an immense amount of torque (425ft lbs of torque at idle) and the other has decent low end torque but not even close to comparison. One will take A LOT of skill to master a stock C7Z, let alone anything modified. The other has so much BMW wizardry to keep you safe. You will feel more comfortable going all out relatively early with the M3/M4. The z06 has a very steep learning curve. z06 will draw so much attention. The G8X will attract attention based off location. My M3 does not get attention at all but my C7Z people still turn their heads. z06 has a more raw driving experience. The BMW is just a fast cruiser type. Are you getting the manual or the auto for the C7Z? Definitely get one for a weekend car man. I am finding myself in a predicament whether i should keep mine or get rid of it before my C8Z arrives.

z06 is a monster.
m4 will feel like a fast smooth suv by comparison. everything other than performance goes to the M4 though. nvh, build quality, materials, rattles, smell inside, etc.

Oh. Well it’s still a monster.
If you do decide to modify def get a trans tune as well. The speed of the shifts with a trans tune is really good. Not so much at partial throttle but at wot it’s fast.

Worth noting are all of the other shortcomings listed above. BMW ownership will tend to spoil you.

When I got mine there was this chemical smell I guess it was all the “seals” or whatever gm uses. The smell finally went away after like 6 months.
Bmw just smells like Leather or that typical new car smell. FYI, bmw quality isn’t all that. Better than gm but not by much. My m3 already has a rattle. My z06 does not.

The Z06 (and Grand Sport) wheels are known to crack and crack A LOT. The automatic transmission is a huge point of contention as well. So many people have experienced failures there, with the gas-guzzling-fighting cylinder deactivation giving people major issues.
I would never buy an automatic Z06 with the issues I've read while being a member of the CorvetteForum.com for the last 6 years. I'd read up on those and make a decision! LOL at the top thread (right now) being a cracked wheel complaint: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-in-wheel.html |
