330e - Recall Warning ⚠️

Just jumped in my car to move it in the drive and got a recall warning come up on the dash saying Do Not Charge. Says I can continue to use the car but must set max battery charge to 30% so the engine doesn’t charge past that amount and not to plug in at all. Also not to use the paddles and just to drive in comfort and auto. Apparently a risk of a fire when the battery is fully charged.

Anyone else got this?!

I got the same warning on Friday and when I checked the BMW recall site it stated car had Recall code 0061670500 and Enhancement code 0061430500. I do not know what the enhancement code is.

This must be a follow on from middle of August announcement when they put new deliverys on hold as they were afraid the weld beads would short circuit on first charge.

I got mine first July and has been charged every day, so they now must think it can happen after first charge at any time.

Called my dealer and they said there is no fix for it yet and car was ok to drive at settings mentioned in warning notice and if I was uncomfortable driving like this they would give me a loan vehicle in the meantime.

That sounds like the battery weld issues that was only supposed to be limited to July builds, looks like all cars built during lock down could be affected??

I actually had 2 charging errors the week before using the 3 pin cable. We were away and it tripped the fuse at the place we were staying. Thought it was the extension cable I'd taken but wonder now if it was a charging cable issue.

Update: Car booked in for end of the month. Replacing charging cable and 'checking' cells on the battery.

Just checked mine and I have the enhancement code but no warning in the car (yet). June 2020 build 330e MSport. No doubt have to wait ages for appointment at dealers.

Is the dealer appointment you have addressing the
Recall code 0061670500 and Enhancement code 0061430500 which came up in car as my dealer still insists there is no fix for it from BMW
yet.

She said they have recall - to replace the charging cable and check cells for the high voltage battery. My recall message has disappeared in the car and can't see any codes in the app?

Just had a call from my dealer about this recall. No messages so far in the car and I charge it nearly every day. They booked me in for next week to fix it. Said it would take an hour.
My car was built pre-lockdown (Feb) and received just before lockdown in early March.

Rang my dealer today. Initially told it was just a new type 2 charging cable but now it has to go in all day for “checks” and they need both charging cables. At least I will be able to get updated software installed! Booked for Monday.

They didn't mention both cables to me but will make sure they are in the boot. She said it's 1-2 hrs work so I can stay and work there or leave it.

i took delivery of my 330e, i paid for every optional extra (not walnut dash however), on Jan 27th 2020, by Jan 28th the rear end set itself on fire; only 70 miles on the clock. BMW took it in and gave me a courtesy car which i'm still driving, i havent heard anything at all from them. i do wonder if this recall has anything to do with it.
i still dont know exactly what the issue was with mine as BMW havent been in touch with me since April and only because i ask them if they had any news. great service for a £50k car which i had to put a fire out on myself using a puddle in a layby!

That doesn't sound good. Can't believe you haven't been refunded or got a replacement.

the worst thing is the communication, i would be ashamed if i ran their customer service training,

in all honesty, i absolutely loved the car, i have a 330e courtesey car which is great, doesnt have all the same extras but still a great car

i just dont know what to do with them really, i chased and chased from January until end of April then just gave up on them.

the below is just after my passenger and i put the fire out, it was coming out about 12 inches or so from both back wheels. if the recall is anything to do with this i highly recommend getting your car sorted!

I hope the "fix" for this recall problem does not consist of replacing the charger with a less powerful/slower one! Or one with a shorter lead.

Booked in 2 weeks today so will update when/if it's all sorted.

I have both the enhancement and recall notice.
Mine is a March 2020 build.
Booked in at dealer end of November to have charging cable replaced and battery "fixed".
Amazing car, hopefully it won't be plagued by tech issues. I already had to have the electrical control unit replaced under warranty which took 3 weeks.

Thanks for posting this as I can now add this to my recall for welding beads in the battery case which my dealer is insisting there is no fix for it and no idea when one will be available.

Hmm, that AutoExpress article makes it sound like the problem is with the batteries in the car. The dealer told me that the problem was with the charger.

This is making me nervous.
