###SUCCESS####Connected Drive subscription question

Although I have traded the G20 and gone to the Dark Side by going to an 840 I thought I would ask this question on here as there isn’t a ‘UK’ section on the 8 Series forum.

Much to my surprise my Connected subscription ran out last week - the car is around 2 years and six months old - i thought Connected ran for three years from new but maybe I’m wrong?

Either way I am puzzled as to why it would expire at 2.5 years?

As it happens I was in Paris when it expired - glad I renewed it as I might still be at Gatwick looking for the car now

I think it’s set as three years from manufacturing date but dealers can validate from date of registration.

xenon makes a good point. You've got to watch them. My 3 year service pack was originally set up to run to a date which, I assume, was the VIN creation date. Connected Drive changed it for me but made me first send them a picture of the registration document.

It’s three years from the manufacture date. Poor really as a lot of Covid built cars will loose out on a few months due to the delays in shipping etc.

I think I lost out on 2 months. BMW do give an additional 3 months to counter this problem though.

Mt car was registered on 1st March (built in Jan) but the renewal date for my connected drive services will be 25th April. So it looks like its’s the first registration date plus a extra few weeks.

Seaford my 840i was built Jan 21 but wasn’t registered until August 21, but mine expires in April 24! I rang connected Drive who said it’s from date of manufacture +90 days. Clearly that’s not the case if people are getting 3 years from theirs!

I'd be complaining if I were you. What they are saying may be true as a process (i.e. the system sets it at manufacturing date + 3 yrs and 90 days) but surely in your case that would contravene the agreed terms of the sale that your car comes with 3 years Connected Drive subscription.

I checked mine out of interest and the 3 yrs +90 days works. Manufacturing date 30 July 21, Registered 2 September 21 and Connected Drive expires 27 October 24.

I’ve tried mate (albeit just calling the Connected Drive helpline) and they said that’s it unless the dealer has goodwill and gives 3 years. I don’t suppose you’ve got a copy of something that says the terms of sale is 3 years subscription by any chance? Cheers

This is a screenshot from the G21 brochure I downloaded just before I ordered my car and this confirms the 3 year point. Do you have anything similar? Maybe worth downloading the current brochure for your car?

Response from bmw below ….doesn’t tie in with the sales, literature but I haven’t the Will to fight this particular battle….

——————-
Hello Xxxxx

Many thanks for contacting BMW ConnectedDrive about your services expiring.

The ConnectedDrive services come with the car for a complimentary period of 3 years and 90 days from the point of production. When these services expire they need to be purchased to continue to use them.

I'm sorry for any disappointment this may cause, but I hope this clarifies the situation.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please get back in touch.

Kind regards

Muryam

Good for you.

I'm on my hobby horse now but businesses which mislead customers either deliberately or (being generous) through sloppy and lazy literature absolutely infuriate me.

Unfortunately the sales brochure is far from contractual. Even the contract of sale is E&OE.
Good luck though as I'm in full agreement.

Mine was built in the first week of March 2020 and then was stuck in the UK due to lockdown for 3 months. I took delivery on 13th June 2020 and my renewal is showing 3rd June 2023.

Yep that’s standard scripted bollocks hoping you’ll (and me) will go away. 3 years should be for the customer as per the brochure, and anything other could and should be classed as mis-selling.

Seaford I’ve actually added the issue to an ongoing complaint I’ve got with my car, and BMW UK have agreed to extend the subscription to 3 years after the first registration date as part of the resolution.

Just sent this…..

Hi, thank you for your response.

What logic is being applied here? It makes no sense. The bmw advertising literature as attached clearly states that Connected is available for three years.

From memory my car was first registered ie ‘sold’ on 31 June 2020. So it seems reasonable that Connected should have run run until 30 June 2023.

The date of manufacture is irrelevant.

As such I would respectfully ask that the Connected subscription I have recently purchased is extended to 30 June 2024 to accurately reflect three years from date of first registration plus the one year i have recently purchased.

Seaford good logical email - absolutely irrelevant when the car was manufactured. It’s not our fault as customers it’s sat in a compound or dealerships for months waiting to be sold.

Keep us posted Seaford. I will be in similar situation in August when 3 yrs old. My subscription shows it runs to June. I’d emailed and had the save as folks have set out above. Haven’t had time to challenge it yet but am watching with interest…..

Good on you, bar a few emails and a bit of frustration, you have nothing to lose.

Ironically, I bought a 2009 1 series that was 2.5 yrs old and previous owner had never registered the Connected Package so I got a full 3 yrs free when I registered it. Unfortunately now, cases like this will be few and far between as more and more buyers rely on having an account set up in the car, back then it wasn't an extensive service.

On a side note, wish they would bring back the Trip Planner on BMW maps, was great being able to plot a specific route with on the PC then sending it to the car.
