Sapphire black, scratches...

So having done just over 500 miles and having driven within 5 miles of a bush I have noticed several scratches on the passenger side and front corner

Never had this issue before, I'm imagining it's more noticeable on Sapphire black/black in general?

Front scratches are small but have gone through the clear coat, anything that might conceal them a bit, have tried some turtle wax black paint scratch remover that was as useful as a chocolate fireguard!?

Also, anyone know of anything I can apply myself to the paintwork to give it a bit more protection?

All defects will show more on black unfortunately. If the scratches have gone through the clear coat (I.e. you can feel them with a fingernail rub) then no compound or polish will remove them unfortunately.

If you're handy with detailing, then I'd recommend a machine polish (and assuming you have a machine polisher!) with a good one stage product like Scholl S20.

If you've only got hand polishing at your disposal, then go over with Meguiars Ultimate Compound and then with a polish like Autoglym Super Resin which has some filling capabilities as well as light abrasives.

Infinity Wax have recently released a DIY 12 month ceramic coating which is very easy to apply and gives a great finish - just ignore the curing times on the bottle to avoid streaking. Literally apply and leave for 30 secs max and level / buff off.

Appreciate its blue / white, but this is my result from it.

Cheers will give that a go, have to keep it for 15 months so actually need to take care of it a bit!

No worries mate - will take a good full days graft to get it done properly, but the results / time you'll save on maintenance washes will be well worth it! Black looks absolutely cracking when done.

I actually realised after posting that - I did my mates 4 series with the same treatment, including a full single stage machine polish. The paint was in a fairly crappy state after 2 and a half years of visiting scratch & shine £5 car washes, so he was staggered when he picked it up!

Very nice work (I take it you detail for a living?!)
I still think the old 4 Series is one of the nicest looking cars BMW have made, I remember having one when they first came out and it actually turned heads!!

Cheers! No just a weekend warrior - I just really enjoy it and keeping my cars in as good a condition as possible.
I totally agree - he's just ordered the new 4 actually in Brooklyn grey. They divide opinion but I think they look great…much more aggressive and the interior is a huge step on from the F series cars.

Okay so ran out of time, couldn't do the wheels and I can still see one of the deeper scratches, but I don't think I've ever seen it so shiny!

Looks like a really good job mate - what did you end up doing / using?

The OCD in me says you need a tyre dressing to make it perfect though

Yeah I know, used Meguiars Ultimate Compound and it took longer than I thought! I am going to get some Infinity wax so will be interesting to see what difference that makes!

Have to do the wife's car tonight but she is just getting Turtlewax wet wax to save time!
