Strange Noise from Engine Bay When Idle

Hey All! I’ve noticed a strange sound coming from the engine bay when the engine is running on idle on my 2019 330i. It almost sounds like a piece of metal is creating this sound. Turning the AC on or off doesn’t change anything.

Please see videos:

Is this normal?

It sounds the same as my 320i. Try to push on this part and see if that sound stops. This metal plate vibrates and it's making that noise. Looks like there is a bolt missing.

Can anyone check and confirm whether there is a bolt or not in theirs?

That looks like the heat shield for the turbo? I don't think it has a bolt. I've read about that hole without a bolt even in the F30 B48 cars.

My engine bay looks a bit different than yours. I don't have that metal piece. It sounds like it's coming from within the engine, maybe the belt?

I also have that hole without a bolt. Any other ideas?

Which sound are you referring to? If you mean the injectors ticking away, my 330ix sounds the same.

I did hear a lower frequency noise in the background from your engine bay video though - almost like some kind of periodic echo? My car doesn't have this noise.

I’m referring to the metal noise that you hear in the video. Would that be the injectors?

The hardest part about these DI cars is that they are all noisy, especially when cold and its hard to tell if its normal or not. My 2020 M340ix has only 800 miles on it and I notice it has a metallic noise when first started up cold. Seems to not be heard inside the car but you can hear it if you are standing outside of it at the hood. It is a bit unnerving on a car this new but I have to say I'm getting used to it since every other DI vehicle I have owned or own also has noises I would normally not be ok with when cold. This includes 18 Mustang GT, 18 F-150 with the 5.0, 17 Lincoln MKZ 3.0t AWD, and 16 Infiniti Q50 3.0t AWD. I was hoping that maybe springing for an amazing vehicle like this BMW would mean a quiet and smooth engine, and it is from inside the car and when warm. I think you just cant get away from noise with the HPFP and other devices under the hood of a modern DI car when warming up. I have learned to ignore it and not worry since so far, knock on wood, none of the cars or truck have malfunctioned or gotten worse.

Are you referring to the random metallic tapping noise? I've been trying to find out if this is a problem or not for my g20 330i. Did you ever find anything out about it?
