Bimmercode

I’m thinking about buying bimmercode - will this deny any warranty claims? I’m buying bmw warranty next month.

Bit of a grey area - if you ended up bricking your head unit by it or something, most probably, but I’ve used it on my last 2 cars with plenty of warranty claims & no issues.

alij I’ve got them both mate, and use with a BMDiag WiFi eNet connector.

BimmerCode is the coding element, and BimmerLink is the diagnostics tool.

Wicked thanks! Appreciate the help with the connector too - is this is the correct one? They all seemed so expensive on the bimmercode site 🤣

To be honest that looks like a cheapo Chinese one - worth spending the money to ensure you get full compatibility and a decent quality product. The BMDiag one is £59.99

An enet cable is faster than a WiFi/bluetooth adaptor. I had to go to AliExpress for my G series as Amazon mostly had F series

Have a g20!
Which adapter would you recommend? Some are coming up as £40-50 some as £90!
Ideally blu/wifi as a I have a MacBook and pc so don’t think they’d be much help with LAN/CAble

AliExpress for $4 USD.. takes about 2 weeks shipping

Just read that you’re running from a MacBook, should still work if you use a lighting or USB-C to Ethernet adapter

Best go with what bimmercode on website recommend, there is compatability matrix on their site, this is the one I chose from it

Perfect man thank you - is there a delay in comparison from Bluetooth to WiFi? Not sure if I’m just falling into marketing or there is a difference

I am not sure of the speed, I just closed something based on features, price and tick against comparability

+1 for looking at the compatibility matrix.

I initially used a generic WiFi (vgate) obd dongle, which worked for reading codes etc but actually caused issues, which ultimately caused coding to fail on me (coding ASD on the RAM module - left it in a bricked state) - luckily i managed to successfully restore from backup after getting the enet cable and usb-Ethernet adaptor.

Definitely get an ENET cable, it’s so much faster than over Bluetooth. Seconds vs minutes.

I use this cable along with either an ethernet to Lightning adapter for the phone or an ethernet to USB-C adapter on my MacBook. I also have this Vgate bluetooth adapter which I started with but only really use it with Bimmerlink these days given the speed difference.

You can code a few different displays but the M rev counter goes up to 7000 revs and as it appears you drive a diesel would possibly be a waste?

It was more just for the aesthetics - this being the display I’m talking about: just looks alot better imo 🤣

That's an ID8 display. I was referring to ID7 on a pre-lCI. Sorry about that.
