Rear Wiper Blade

Hey everyone, hope this isn't against forum rules but I posted this in the general thread...https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1965010

Quoted:
Hey, sorry I have done a site search but can't find anything relevant.

The rear wiper blade. When trying to lift it up to wash the window, is very very stiff. So much so I assumed there must be a particular mode you have to put it into, similar to the front wipers.
Googling it and apparently not, you just lift it up normally.

So this weekend I successfully lift it a few inches. The resistance was strong so certainly didn't try to lift the thing right up, and just did enough to get under.

Ever since then, now the bl**dy wiper blade isn't getting proper contact with the window. If you imagine a half moon, the first and last 1/5 of the turn is being missed.

So am I an idiot? Have I broken something?

Thanks

Not sure what is happening with your wiper arm. Typically, the wiper can simply be lifted against spring tension, until it passes the resistance point, then stays away from the screen at about 45 degrees or so.

OP - sounds like something is definitely wrong with yours. Pic shows the position mine lifts to and this is very easy to do.

Hello,

I have a G21 LCI and it seems to be that I could have the same issue.
If I try to pull the rear wiper, it lifts only a few mm and I feel a very high resistance.
I see a part of the spring that goes in contact on the flat surface of the wiper and I am not sure if it is meant to be that way.

What did the dealer say?

Keeping an eye on this thread as mine is the same. Cannot lift the wiper arm and only 2/3rd's of the sweep is effective.

I've recently changed from a 2020 car to a LCI and in the earlier car I could lift the rear wiper but on the new one I can't. I noticed it the first time I went to wash the car. The glass is also much harder to close on the new one.

I think I figured it out.
In my wiper, there was a sort of pin which was preventing the arm to tilt. I needed to remove the cover to see that pin.
Once the cover is removed, I pulled the arm sideways, like to extend the radius of the wiper.
Doing so there will be enough room to remove the pin. Once removed the arm can be lifted up to about 45 degrees.

If you pull hard enough, you'll be able to lift the arm and causing it to slide under the pin and pushing it out.

I don't know why there is this additional pin, if to prevent wiper movement during the shipment of the car or during the wash. I put it back, i'll remove it only when I'll need.

Thanks for sharing!

Picked up an LCI Touring a couple of weeks ago and have been having the same issue.

Now I can only hope I didn't already make the rear wiper less effective after my attempts lifting the arm before learning about this. I can't believe this isn't explained in the documentation for the car! Where it only tells you to lift the arm and not a single word about any pin.

m111 Did you pay the dealership a visit and asking them about this and if yes, were they able to fix the wiper to have full contact with the window again?

I can imagine how all LCI Touring owners must be scratching their heads with the same question. Again, really strange how this isn't clearly explained in the manual!

came here looking for the same answer !

I did notice the pin thing, but didn't want to mess with it. seems this is a new standard change on all the LCI ones.

Makes it hard to wash!

Forgot to ask about this last time I was at the dealership but will make sure to ask about it next time.

Would be really interesting to understand what was behind this design change. Making it so hard to perform such a simple thing. And again, not even explained in the documentation for the car.

Not particularly impressive.

So I think I may have lifted my wiper arm higher than it should have gone before reading this, it is now not pushed tight against the window like it should.

Anyone got a solution, do I need a new pin or should I go back to BMW cap in hand?

Sorry to hear that. I was close doing the same thing but stopped trying in time when I felt the resistance.

If you end up going back to BMW, please let us know what they said.

I have an appointment scheduled myself to replace my windscreen in a week. Will remember to ask about it this time and will let you know their response.

Not that it's much help but the G31 is the same. even if you remove the black stop it still doesn't lift. Stupid design

Again, really odd why they changed the design in this way 🤔
