Forum experience with Sunset Orange?

I've been in F30 Estoril Blue now for 7 years and am looking for a change. I still like something that stands out so I am not interested in white, black, gray, etc.

That leaves Sunset Orange. It has really grown on me, but some people I show the build to will say "not sure about that color....maybe it looks different in person". So I'm asking what your thoughts have been of Sunset Orange...especially from any members who have picked one up.

I love that it is more rare to see it on the streets, but that also makes it harder to see in person. I'm driving to my dealer this Saturday to get an appraisal on my F30 and put in the order for the G20. Just curious what you guys think.

I test drove a Sunset Orange M340i during the M Town Tour and I like the color. If you like something flashy and stands out you’ll definitely like it. I feel people that aren’t sure about this color are ones that generally don’t like loud flashy colors.

Orange is for the ones that dare! It's a beautiful colour that stands out. Very good choice!

I have the predecessor Valencia Orange on a 2 Series and love it. To whatever degree it matters, it gets a lot of positive news comments. Sunset is shifted a bit toward the red tones. Just as unusual and richly attractive. The whole “flashy” issue is overplayed...it is just strikingly attractive and not dull as are some of the “non-color” colors.

I love the color. It's not annoying like other oranges, but it gives it a classy look and does stand out.

Sorry, I have to disagree. For context, orange is my favorite color. I literally own an orange version of just about everything. I’m wearing orange pants as I type this! Sunset Orange is, to me, not a very desirable shade of that color. I’m coming from Estoril as well and have previously owned an M3 in Imola. I was hoping that they would have offered Sakhir for the M340i. The SO is neither orange enough nor red enough. Just my opinion of course!

That looks great! I'm going with black wheels, kidneys, and heavy tint as well. Also getting the black rear deck spoiler. May I ask why you passed on that?

That looks great and I agree on the interior. I'm going with the Oyster as well. The two tone looks so good.

totally agree with you. I also love orange SO neither looks orange or red and in gloomy weather looks downright unattractive. apologies to guys who have it as this is only my opinion. I also like flashy colors but this orange is not it.

I choose to go with Melbourne Red. You don't see it that often and I find it striking! Also looked at Sunset Orange but I don't like it under all light conditions. I'm surprised how many US owners choose and prefer this color. I absolutely don't find it ugly but to me it doesn't have the wow factor. In good light: yes in bad light: don't like it at all.

But that's justy two cents :

Sorry, same here. I also come from Estoril blue and really like orange color. I was very much considering sunset orange. It is nice at direct sun light when the car is super clean. But most of the time I find it boring. Just my opinion.
I think color options are not very satisfying unless you pay individual. I didn’t want another blue as EB is everywhere here and so will be Portimao. So I went for alpine white with carbon m performance diffuser and spoiler.

It's a bummer Red wasn't available for M-Sport or 340.

I would have put it on if I had the carbon splitters up front, but since I didn't I wanted a clean look on the back.

Ordered my 330e M Sport Plus in Sunset, due next month. This was a 320d I spotted at my local dealer a few weeks back. It's a very rare colour for a G20 in the UK, in fact this is the only one I've ever seen and I do 2000 miles/month. Most are white or blue, the odd grey one. Not that I see many G20's full stop. Not sure they're selling well but I think the 330e may change that, tax benefits are substantial for company car drivers and car magazine reviews are very positive.

I think it is a great colour. Everytime I see one in the street, I make a mental note of ordering the next one in Sunset. It goes really well with black accents, and is not overly flashy like Portimao.

I ordered mine and if you think orange is a color to gamble on I went with the cognac interior as I'm
not a black or oyster interior guy. I worried the whole time that the interior was going to be too "orange" and clash with the exterior. I couldn't be happier with the gamble.
I have been driving neutral color cars for the last 9 years and absolutely feel in love with sunset orange when the M850 came out with it. I was sold when the G20 was offered in it and knew right away I was breaking the color cycle and ordering a M340.
I have had so many random conversations with people about the color. People saying it's the best color they have seen on a car which is obviously subjective. Even one conversation with a guy while stopped at traffic light. It's definitely not for everyone and I'm still adjusting to the attention it draws but I completely love the depth the color has.

Placed my order today. They actually didn't have anything in SO for me to even look at, but I'm sold. These pics look great.

The test drive was awesome too! M340 is such a major evolution over the F30!
