Terrible.
I am curious how BMw will handle this and if we can get future updates.
BMW should deliver a new car as the owner pays for a new car. Some will probably be repaired without anybody knowing.
However, is s big risk as many owners are true car enthusiasts and can observe if a vehicle was fixed and BMW can end up with a class action lawsuit.

The right thing to do is get whatever insurance and be honest and sell the damaged ones for whatever will work to compensate some of the loss.

Your car is most likely damaged in a major hailstorm that hit Munich area on Monday, June 10th 2019.

Official reports say around 4000 BMWs that were waiting for delivery are damaged! According to the info I currently have, my car was on that parking lot.

One of the areas with the worst damage is where BMW Garching facility is located. This is where most of the vehicles were waiting for transport.

At this moment my local dealer does not have any official info from BMW HQ. We only know that it's stuck in pre-transport phase since last monday, June 10th.
I was scheduled for delivery by the end of last week(by June 15th). Now I'm just bummed out because I don't know anything. I don't know if my car is severly damaged. I don't know if it's going to be repaired or replaced with a new one. And I don't know when will it be delivered.

These damages could be serious because all reports state that hail was even bigger then a size of a Baseball!!!

Officials state that huge damages are recorded on vehicles, houses and infrastructure. Insurance companies initially estimated this to 30 million €, but eventually updated the estimate to 45 million.

There are several owners on german forums that were unlucky as I was. Some cars had smaller damage and those will be repaired with an estimated repair wait period of 6 weeks minimum. One german owner reported his G20 320i was totalled, and he's gonna get a new one.

I bet insurance will just total most of these cars judging from the video. Almost every single panel looks affected.

My was produced on June 11, so a day after. According to the dealer it was not affected. The BMW is aware of the problem and from what I have heard, in case the damage is repairable, the standard procedure in case the car gets affected is to inform the dealer who should either contact the customer prior to the repair (in case of more major ones) or inform the customer during the delivery what minor repairs have been done to the car.

There is a list of cars damaged available to the dealers so once your car is not marked there, your BMW is safe.

Had a car damaged by a hailstorm back in 2014. Broken side mirror and over 200 dents all over the car. It was fixed completly and costed the insurance company around 4500€. It took 4 days of body work to remove all dents.

or the glass has super extra strength or the other parts of the vehicle are not of the best quality. how is it that the taillight is broken and the panoramic glass isn´t? I think they are on purpose made fragile so there´s more business. interesting this video

pdk... why not get a gt3 with a manual?
RS w PDK >>>>> manual GT3. Not even close for me, although both are fantastic cars.

Hi,
Do you think it hailed in Zuffenhausen on June 10th as that is where my Gt3 RS was sitting outside the factory or enroute to Port Emdem.
Thanks!

Still is a new car and if repaired without knowing, what is the harm?

I consider myself a true car enthusiast and have never been able to tell where the PDR was done on a car. Good PDR people leave no trace

Alas, if there is a trace (they have to drill a door or something), then I'm sure they will note it. But at the end of the day, lots of things happen to the car from and during the time the car is made till it reaches the new buyers sticky fingers and it is still considered new and sometimes that means it was repaired.

Don’t know about you but I am able to see if someone did something to my new car. And I will never accept one.
When I pick up my vehicle from the dealership I am doing a 20 minutes at least inspection. They scratch it, the buy it an I always put them to inspect it and take pictures when I drop it.
It happened to me once with a brand new vehicle, took delivery, did a thorough inspection at home and observed some PDR work; asked to return the vehicle. Got refused, sued them, they took the vehicle back and paid me the price of another one for all the hassle.
I will never ever accept a car that was tempeed with even if is a small mirror scratch. I pay new, I want new.
Otherwise, deliver it or sell it to whoever buys your story. Period.

Hmmm, the meaning of the word "new" must be different up north. Down here it means something different.

oh yea, also down here, because of the attorneys, you get to sign something with the dealer that says all cases will be handled via arbitration. That's always fun.

Keep in mind, you are the customer, they need you. You shouldn’t sign such thing.
If is a new vehicle as they claim, it shouldn’t be a problem anyway, right?

They don't give you a lot of choice - however, I agree - if you don't like the car, and or you get home and find out it is not right, you should be able to get out of the deal.

I did European Delivery of my M5 in May. Dropped the car off on May 12th in Munich and for some reason the car never left Munich. I originally got info from the shipping company that it was to leave Bremerhaven on 5/26 but apparently that never happened. For about a week no-one could tell me where the car was. Now my dealer can't tell me if the car was in the area affected by the hail storm. My concern is that if it was damaged that I have no choice to refuse the car as I've already put 1600 miles on it and signed my lease paperwork in late April.

It is so frustrating to not know what is going on. I've been buying BMWs from the same dealer for 20 years. It seems that BMW is having lots of logistic issues lately. This might be my last BMW.

My 2019 G20 was effected by this. Build start date was 4/19. Specifically ordered early because my lease is ending 7/14. Now it's been stuck at the port since 6/11. Called the BMW Genius number and they have it in their computer as "at the port" awaiting a vessel since 6/11, so I'm assuming my car was definitely damaged. Now, my car won't be here in time for my current lease end.

This is one of the biggest "risks" of doing ED but BMW usually make it right to the best of my knowledge.

There have been folks in your situation in the past who received a brand new car delivered directly to their home dealer.

BMW will most likely cancel your lease agreement with that particular car and will order you a new one if your vehicle was significantly damaged.

Make sure to invest in a good paint meter if they re-deliver you the very same car but we unfortunately have very limited options when it comes to rejecting an ED car.

Keep us posted and GL

Yes I called BMWFS and they will give me a grace period of 7 days, extend another month or go by a daily charge. Not looking to do that. That's money I was suppose to use on tax, title etc. on my new vehicle. That was the reason why I ordered 3 months in advance. Currently I'm trying to see if they would instead swap out a car that they have in stock.
