Chassis, power (stg1 tune), quickness/darting, looks, interior design are all rather good. Interior space, top end, track feel (stock tires... destroyed 3 tires in one day), track excitement and an unnecessarily harsh ride on the highway are the down sides. I am 6'3" and my seat and steering wheel are both pretty far back so I have to weave my a$$ around the b-pillar was to get in and out of the car. Also I (rarely) put my kids in the car to go for a drive but they constantly complain about the S3's lack of space. They loved the 7 series they sat in the other day bc they could swing their legs and not hit the driver seat lol ... (3 & 5 yrs old). I use a Camaro SS 1LE which has all the drama the S3 is missing, is wayyy more capable on track and actually is a much smoother ride down the highway with the MR suspension in the Camaro. Of course the 1LE has basically no back seat and luxury. I'm super torn between drama and utility (Raptor, yolo) and something either more luxurious or more useful while also being s better highway cruiser (540i, X5 35i, Tundra Platinum Crewmax). Too many great vehicles out there and nothing is perfect at everything, ugh!

I agree w your comments, i've driven them quite a bit... I think on the whole it is a small car and not really fit for someone who will consistently have back passengers. I also don't really think any Audi is particularly a track car... the haldex awd is however quite good even tho it does make the car feel fwd. In terms of top end, w a stage 2 tune, they can trap 115 mph so I would call that at least very good for a 4 banger. My only complaints were w the exhaust sound and the laggy motor... I think a nice exhaust fixes one and a solid tune helps w the other... overall a very good car however.

Previously an E46 M3 ZCP. Currently ‘18 M2. I’ll want a 4 door M car in a couple of years and will check out the G80. I love the ‘18 M5 but it’s too much $$.

My lease ends April 2019. The M3 will be out of production in October and there are no pull a heads for M cars. Maybe I'll take over a lease of another M3 or order a new M4. Not sure yet. I wish my lease ended in August 2018 so I could order a individual M3.

Definitely an interesting choice but variety is the spice of life ... I still need to drive a Tesla sometime!

Well I went out and got something to hold me over, alright. This thing came in as CPO when I was planning to go into the dealership and look at a Gray or White M3... planned on choosing one of those two over the weekend and calling it a day. When I saw and drove this thing, I fell in love. Somehow the previous owner kept the white leather and piano black trim immaculate over 33k miles. Same price essentially so I couldn't pass it up as it was absolutely loaded and, like i said, in incredible shape. My kids will change that soon butttt that's neither here nor there:

congrats

The gran coupe looks great on that chassis. Do you have any immediate comparisons that you'd like to share between the m3 and m6?

2018 M3 DCT comp pkg and MPE vs 2016 M6 DCT comp pkg and MPE

Engine note:
M3 much better than without MPE
M6 much better than M3 with MPE but rather quiet inside and synthesized, very nice outside

Engine power (I had 2 F80s a while back, traded a stag 1 tuned S3 and also just got rid of my 455hp/tq camaro SS 1LE):
M3 is good. Poor delivery to the ground due to the choppy ride in a curved on-ramp. Still a fast car with plenty torque.
M6 also has a little trouble harnessing all the power but delivery feels smoother due to better damping.

Suspension:

M3 felt quite a bit more harsh than my 2015 F80 (adjustable suspension) or my 2016 F80 (passive suspension). My rear seat passenger commented on how rough it was. Bad highway section by still. Not quite "nervous" feeling but with the M3 I expect a fairly compliant ride that can also hold up to track duty. This felt like a track-first suspension. My SS 1LE had an amazing suspension and the "soft" vs "track" settings were VERY different and both still super smooth, just more or less bounce.

M6 just felt sooo much more complaint but still composed through the turns... more like the 1LE (sacrilege, right?). The adjustability is there, but not immense. I haven't really ripped on it but it definitely feels large so I'm interested to see how well behaved it is when being pushed.

Interior:

M3: very nice, aging but still clean and functional. Upright seating makes it feel slightly more roomy for knees and feet in the back, according to my friend. Visibility is also very good in M3.

M6: interior is pretty WOW. Full leather, alcantara ceiling, B&O, 100-way adjustable seats with cooling, heat and massage, all driver tech goodies.. comfortable seating position with noticeably worse visibility.

Brakes:
Both are adequate but M6 has carbon ceramics so ... gotta make sure I get rid of the car before a full brake service.

Looks:
M3 looks super aggressive, love it,

M6 is beautiful and has a more subtle look to it, but still a great looking car ... lonnngggg

Both great cars, the M3 is playful while the M6 is stable and smooth... more what I was looking for this time and with a prior MSRP of like $165k, the M6 was a great value!

F12 M6 is the sexiest BMW of all time IMHO. Love everything about the beast.

Big down side is the M6 forum is pretty lame ... the support and activity with the M3 crowd online was a big reason I wanted an M3 for DD and track duty. Maybe not a factor that should have the final say, however, something to consider. the M6 wasn't on my radar but it feels like I got exactly what I was looking for with this thing!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm going to try picking up someone else's '18 M3 lease next year but if that fails, I may consider going down one level to the new G20 340 , S4, or C43 (the one coming out next year gets some improvements and 385 hp).

Well if it helps you can't order an Individual M3 now! I tried to do this & placed an order on 26th April for Speed Yellow & Individual Leather - dealler thought they could manage it through but BMW rejected the order stating they won't now take Individual orders now. I reverted to YMB and it arrives next month. That will tide me over nicely until the G80 CP is well established and decent deals are to be had on them.

Love my F80 so will hold on to that as long as possible (lease ends in two years from tomorrow).

If no new M3 is out by then....well who knows.

We also have the new 8 series coming out this fall. So by then mayb an M850i or potentially M8 Gran Coupe

Lots of exciting things coming up from BMW.

Own an M2 and Audi Allroad, the Audi is a boring high class Volkswagen for me
I would jump on an M2 waiting for new M3 with S58 engine

My brand new M3 - currently on a boat on the way back. Should time nicely with a 3 year lease to the next gen and do ED again in summer of 2021.

My F80 M3 came off lease in May, and I just got into an Audi S4 to hold me over for the next 3 years until the G80 M3 is out and perhaps a 2nd year model for me.

Nice, the new S4 looks great. I just wish they still produce it with a manual transmission. I actually leased a new 6MT M3 this morning and will be putting my 2012 S4 on the market.
