Tip: Forcing Auto Stop/Start to activate

Hey all! Found a little tip if you wanted to save a bit more of fuel.

If the car is fully stopped and you don’t have any A/C on, you can push the brake pedal a bit harder to make the auto stop come on if it’s not already.

Sometimes I’m at a very long red light and auto stop/start won’t engage the engine even though the engine is warmed up so this little tip would come in handy.

Though it still is very jerky and sucks to feel the whole vibration throughout the car when the engine turns on again.

Would love a little tip to permanently disable auto stop. Missing this from the F30.

Literally makes no difference - it's pretty much seamless. I think people hate it for the sake of hating it.

I hate it because it comes on , in my car anyways, before I am actually stopped. It gives the sensation of a manual car just about to stall.

Exactly. Same in my A7 and SQ5. In my B9 A4, it was absolutely perfect. It only came on after the car came to a complete stop.

Doesn't it remember your preference when in comfort mode? I haven't paid much attention because I am normally in sport plus and it disables itself.

In Sport mode, ASS is disabled. In comfort mode, it isn’t. I’ve coded mine to remember the last setting.

In my previous B9 S4 and S5 it was annoying and would shut off while I was coming to a stop and the turn on was often jerky. I hated it so much.

It’s the same in my 330i. Turns off before the car comes to a stop. It was absolutely seamless in my C7 A6. It would only turn off after the car came to a complete stop. And there was absolutely no vibration or anything of the sort when the car turned back on. You wouldn’t know when it was in action. In the A4 too, it was pretty nice except it vibrated a wee bit when it turned back on.

Depends on your definition of seamless. Mine would be that I don't notice it working. But I do notice it working, every time, and it's enough of an annoyance that I turn it off every time I get into the car. I just don't believe that the minimal extra mileage is worth that niggling annoyance.

Exactly. Which is why I thought it was “seamless” in my ex-A6 but not in any other car I’ve owned since.

Not sure how one designs a system that turns off the engine in such a way that it can’t be noticed. Let’s be realistic here. I’m still coding it off but it’s much MUCH improved over my F30.

I’m not sure either but like I said, in the C7 A6, it was perfect. The car would turn off ONLY after it came to a complete stop. The car would turn back on the moment you reduced the pressure on the brake pedal. And it had zero vibrations when turning back on. The only way you knew it was in action was with the sound of the car starting. Even the 535i I test drove didn’t have such a good A.S.S system. Also, the C7.5 A7 which I have isn’t as good. Works like how it does in my 330i which isn’t as good.

The ASS is anything but seamless. If it just waited a bit longer to shut off the engine I would probably use it. Instead the car seemingly stalls all the time, it shuts off while I am rolling and comes back on as I actually stop, or I dont fully stop and it turns off and instantly back on. Gotta love that noticeable shake each time. Also, if you try to quickly go from a stop and forget it is off, prepare for a very harsh jerk that doesn't seem good for the car.

my 340 F30, I turned it off the day I got the car and it remembered to stay off for years, it was not coded it was just a comfort access key memory feature to remember the last setting that ASS was off... so now you guys are saying the G20 doesn't have this F30 "remember feature" ? that sucks

Does not remember last setting in the G20.

Absolutely hate Auto Start/Stop, even more so that they didn't make it like the F30 where it remembers last setting used.

Doesn't even work right, comes to a stop before I even completely stop the vehicle and if I slightly let off the gas to go up forward it jerks back on... it's a POS I always try to remember to cut it off once I start my vehicle.

Applicable to G30.This is fixed in the upgrade to istep version S. Used to be really bad especially in ecopro. Now no problem. Neck happy again.
Maybe try that?

The G20 doesn't remember. My F30 was also a very early production and back then they also didn't remember. It took a while before there was a update to allow it to do so.
