^ Good grief.

So I guess my 2006 Z4M will stay the "current" Z4M for a long time to come, lol.

So much disappointment here, oh well.

We may get to see a near production concept next year.

A Toyota Australia spokesman was unable to add any further information except to say: “Toyota is preparing to showcase a concept of this sports car sometime in 2018 and that as would be expected Toyota Australia are part of the same global process to determine branding / naming”.

A more production ready rendering.

Another version without the lines that cut into the nose area.

What, no headlights slicing halfway back the fenders? No shin-slicers? Where are the 24 mostly needless scoops and vents???

Seriously, I will be staggered if the car's lines are actually that clean. And pleased.

One thing that sorta annoys me about car guys talking about Supra is the price. They think that Toyota is going to release a $30k car lol. These car guys dont understand how inflation works.

I love reading the comments like if its over 30k Im not buying!!!

The last one was certainly a victim of its high price. You're suggesting the solution will be to take it even higher?

The C7 is usually heavily discounted and probably represents the absolute ceiling of what people would pay for a Gazoo Cressida Corolla Supra.

Much like the interminable lead up to the GT86 and NSX, the majority of the people that cared about this car five plus years ago when it started being teased have likely bought two or more cars since then and simply moved on.

Thats not the point. People fail to realize that what 20,000 in 1995 isnt the same as what it is now.

Okay, but a 1995 was twice that price, so what's your point?

You still fail to realize my point.

My "20k in 1995" was a rhetorical thing.

My POINT is the economy and inflation.

What was once 20k in 1995 isn't 20K in PRESENT day.

You see it all the time, people complaining about prices of cars. When in reality prices have been adjusted to inflation.

Has anyone argued that the Supra should be free? It's based on a BMW chassis that's replacing a car that was a $50k four banger or easily a $70k six cylinder.

The problem for Toyota, or anyone really, is that a Corvette is $55k and generally has great incentives, and a Corvette and Mustang are significantly cheaper and offer impressive performance.

The 370Z has been in that no mans land forever and barely sells. What magic act can Toyota bring to this fight that no one else has? The MkIV was an impressive car, but was a sales flop, like the 300Z, RX7 and Porkpie 3000GT.

Thing is, it's not just inflation:
- The average price of a car in 1995 was $15,500. The average price for a car in 2017 is $33,600.
- $15,500 in 1995, adjusted for inflation to 2017, is $24,896.

So what accounts for that extra $8,700 or so? Many, many other things ranging from the extra cost of safety equipment (Exhibit A: air bags) to customer expectations of more standard equipment on a standard car (Exhibit A: Navigation) to the emergence of the lease's ability to get Joe Schmo into a 3 Series instead of, say, an Accord.

People complaining about the price of cars nowadays either don't remember 1995, weren't born in the 1980s or later, or lament the relative simplicity of 1995. Basically: they only have themselves to blame.

Well the 300ZX had pretty decent sales in the beginning. All in all they sold about 90k Z32 in the US from 90-96.

What went wrong with the 370Z? IMO it got uglier and more expensive.

The 300Z did great when it had the market to itself and when the C4 was, well, the C4. But the C5, rX7 and Supra took a lot of the wind out of its sail.

I wonder if the new Supra release will affect the prices of the overpriced old Supras. I am thinking not, but I hope it does.

I don't think it will have much of an affect. The 1st gen NSX hasn't really gone down since the introduction of the new one.

I like how the model year keeps moving out. Probably be 2020 before the poor thing gets released.

New Toyota Supra set to debut at Geneva 2018 in four states of tune

Quote:
New Toyota Supra to be sold under Gazoo Racing name, and be offered in Supra, Supra GR, Supra GR Sport and Supra GRMN forms in 2019

Toyota's revived Supra is just weeks away from launch, as the official unveiling is all set for the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The sports car, developed jointly with BMW, won't be sold with Toyota badges, and will instead feature the Gazoo Racing nameplate.

Insiders claim tht the new Supra will come in four different states of tune; as the basic Supra, as a Supra GR, as a Supra GR Sport, and finally as a Supra GRMN. Expect a significant gap in performance and price between the base Supra and the GR sport, with variations in suspension tune also likely.

“The Supra will be by Gazoo,” the performance division, Shigeki Tomoyama, told Auto Express late last year. The news comes after it transpired that the Gazoo Racing team became more heavily involved in the car’s development – after Toyota president Akio Toyoda tested the vehicle and decided it needed to be “more mobile”. Prototype cars have since been given more of an edge to what was a fairly benign initial set-up.

The Supra’s sister vehicle, the BMW Z4, is expected in showrooms next year, but Tomoyama hinted that the Gazoo creation may not arrive until the second half of 2019.

While the BMW will be sold only as a convertible, the Supra will be a fixed-roof coupe. It’s likely that the Gazoo-badged car will use bigger, six-cylinder engines, too.

As the owner of a 600bhp carbon fibre-bodied previous-generation Supra, Gazoo boss Tomoyama said that the new car will need to attract fans of the classic models.

“The new car has to appeal to the existing owners first,” he told us. “The old cars had a straight-six engine, twin turbos and rear-wheel drive; the new car must have the same philosophy.”

There’s a chance Toyota and Gazoo will look to their Le Mans race cars for added hybrid tech. The new model is said to weigh between 1,200kg and 1,500kg, with Gazoo using the BMW M4 Coupe and Porsche 911 as benchmarks.

As with all other GR models, such as the Yaris GRMN, the company will offer an extensive range of aftermarket tuning parts for the new sports car. Prices will be announced closer to the car’s showroom debut.
