Also, I'd guess the number fell in the later model years, and I'd imagine 2018’s numbers matter more to BMW than 2014’s.

You're still carrying around the AWD components even when in RWD mode. 🤢

They should just cut the CS model, change Competition to CS or CSI and make it loaded with options (not stripped down for weight and stuff, like they cheapened out on center console). No one needs racing formula one in pothole roads in the US ;-)

The pleasure derived from the skill required to drive a rear wheel drive car cannot be matched by all-wheel drive. Yes, a manual transmission is part of the equation, and adds to the enjoyment. There is very much more control to be had with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, and thus greater pleasure putting those skills to use... even more so in traffic! It gives you something to enjoy doing besides your iPhone, make-up, and the radio (I'ld rather listen to engine noises).
Long live the manual, rear-wheel drive M3!

I totally understand the manual situation, but, it most likely looks like there will be a switchable awd system therefore allowing people to switch into rwd like the M5.

If I had to bet I would say Pure is dead but base will be 475 hp RWD with option of manual or auto and can add xDrive to auto if desired. Then competition would be xDrive auto for all. Pure idea was dumb from the start.

Thanks ynguldyn for the update. Are you able to estimate SOP for the G80? Summer of 2020 ish? Also do you think the M3 and M4 will have a joint launch as they did with the F80 and F82?

No more MT??? Funny how we were all complaining about a huge grill just the other week.

Bummer as I had already convinced the wife on a ED trip to pick up a manual g80. I don't want another auto. Getting a M2 in DCT was one of the worst decisions I've made in my life.

Maybe they thought canning the manual would shift the focus off the grille...

Pure models have been an Australia only market offering in the past.

While in a completely different industry; I've been there... Somebody asks "well how many do you project will sell?" The answer essentially kills the idea.

At the end of the day, the laws of demand elasticity still rule and I suspect M's pricing strategy will be heavily informed by Stuttgart's approach to the 911. Although BMW might have some room to float on price, they'll still need to maintain a delta between an M3/4 and the Carrera. If the G80 price point floats parallel to a Carrera...would you trade up to the Porsche?

The US has ~ 30% take rate on the F80 6MT. I would suspect that number to jump higher with competition for manuals dwindling and people wanting the "last Mcar with a manaul".

If BMW does not offer a manual that large group, me included (bought a F806mt new and F876mt new) we will buy used or buy from your competitors. Not offering a manual would be a huge mistake by BMW, especially, after alluding that it would in fact, do so.

M clearly indicated through leaks and through interviews, that The G80 would have a manual transmission. They know it has a special connection to the enthusiast crowd - many who have stuck with the brand buying multiple generations of manual transmission cars.

If they pull the plug on the G80 manual I will never buy another BMW again.
BMW - Your customer base wants and buys manual transmission, please do not screw this up.

Based on that info the G20 M3 Pure should be about as quick as the current F8X platform.

The M3 is officially moving to status as the "new" M5. The M5 is a really fast and comfortable barge.

You want an M3? Follow Chris Harris' advice - get an M2.
