I was talking about the mishimoto one, it has a metal lip to hold the rubber piece, i think the metal lip is sufficient. Look at post 228.

Thanks for the video link. Makes sense. He mentioned that it doesn’t really hang down further than the air deflector, but the air deflector is rubber and flexible so it would move if scraped. On your car, is the metal tab the lowest point on the front?

Also, check your PM. I sent an unrelated question if you have a chance. Thanks.

Based on the installed pic, it looks like that tab on the front goes over the rubber air dam since this gets installed on top of the stock piece instead of replacing it, so yeah, that is going to scrape if originally the rubber flat was going to. Not sure I like this design, but as I said, perhaps v2 can be a full replacement for the stock piece. I’m sure people would pay a little more for more material, it’s a nice design, especially the honeycomb cuts. I don’t think it’ll take long to redo the plasma cutter file to be the same size as stock but with the integrated shield, you’re just moving the outer measurements out and just charge a little more for more metal.

Its not the lowest part, the underbelly pan goes lower, there's a gradual slope to the back of the engine. Just installed mine, added a mesh to it also.

Ah ok, ya the mishimoto definitely sits lower, one of the reasons i chose this one.

The underbelly pan is closer to the tires, so the car will naturally raise over speed bumps, curbs, etc.. and no way to hit the pan. The concern is that the metal tab is on the very front, where you would normally scrape your lip, on speed bumps, or driveway curbs, and catch.

Looking at the guard, it’s notched on both sides for that plastic part that protrudes with the metal covering the center of it. Do those hang down lower and are they as far forward?

Are you concerned about the additional mesh you’ve added blocking airflow? something to consider. Watch those temps in summer!

That's true, but this might be an issue for those who are lowered.
But i have a feeling when i get my vorsteiner style lip that will be the lowest point now

They're at around the same forward location, the bridge is around 0.5" lower than them.

Nah, i had that mesh during the summer and the oil temps hovered around 100-105c max, and at those temps only half of the oil goes through the oil cooler, once you're past 114c then you get full flow through it. Perhaps when you're tracking the car then it might affect temps a bit but then maybe you should get a bigger oil cooler in that case.

Pretty sure my dealer installed the Mishimoto plate with the old rubber air dam under it still in place. Is that a problem?

They have two options, take off the plate and fetch the rubber air dam or order you a new rubber air dam and put it back https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...al-17219501845
But since there's already a small metal lip to hold the air damn on the mishimoto plate i think you'll be fine, keep an eye on your oil temps.

Do you think it’s a problem leaving it under there until I go in for my break in service? Like is it possibly causing an issue under the plate?

Even if they did which would be kind of odd I doubt it would do anything. The plate just squished it in between that’s all. I don’t see how it could be a problem.

Did yours happen to come with these long length plastic spacers?
I ordered the same plate and mines came with long spacers. Not sure if I’m supposed to install it. The videos I watched, the long spacers weren’t in the items.

No mine were all like 1/8" thick, but the rear two longer screws might need them.

Looks good, any clearance issues

Install looks good, please let us know if you experience any issues with the clearance due to that added metal that over the rubber air dam. Agree with other threads that the rubber air dam can flex if it touches anything but that metal won't and may cause the skid plate to bend and cause problems elsewhere. I just got my M3 so looking at the various people who have experiences with this or the mishimoto skid plate.
