GPS errors iphone
Is anyone having problems with a current iPhone and GPS?
I have a new iPhone 14 Pro, and use it through CarPlay daily. I drive a 330e. I have been getting GPS errors that inconsistently place the car between 100 and 600 feet from where it actually is. The problem is the same with Apple, Maps, Google Maps, and Waze. Typically not a major problem except when I’m using navigation for directions in the car, and it consistently thinks it is somewhere it is not, and, as a consequence, gives me repeated commands to turn back to my route. Apple customer support, and I went through six or seven phone calls to try and remedy the situation, ultimately resulting in them sending me a replacement phone, and I am still having the same problems intermittently with a new phone. I do have ceramic tint on the car, but I don’t believe that is the problem. I have taken the phone’s cover off and placed it on the dashboard when I have been experiencing problems to make sure that neither the case nor the roof of the car are blocking signal Anybody else experiencing these issues? |

Yeah - got conflicting info from Apple on this yesterday - first level tech said after reviewing her database: "This appears to be a developing issue," suggesting that other's were having the same problem.
She then transferred me to an upper-level tech-specialist who denied that it was a developing issue and suggested that the problem was likely an undetermined third-party app. She suggested that I do a clean install and then add my apps back one at a time. Apparently, in her view, doing a restore from the cloud would have re-infected the phone. I've decided to wait the issue out for now, as I've been through one-too-many "restores" for my taste lately. First-world-problem. Fortunately, I can usually find my way home without GPS guidance. |

I actually just posted a new thread https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1977663
I have an iPhone 13 pro and have had the same problems. Can't go more than a few mile without my sh*t telling me I'm driving through houses and buildings on my BMW map (same with apple/google maps). I have zero issues with my phone's map when I'm not with my car though. |

Also having the same problem with my 2023 M340i that's a week old. Happens in Apple Maps and Google maps. The built-in nav appears to have the correct location though.
Googling indicates that CarPlay actually uses the car's GPS not the phone's, so likely a GPS problem with the car. Going to try another phone then I might have to schedule a dealer appointment and see if they can troubleshoot. |

Hmmmmm. I’ve done some experimenting.
For background, I have an iPhone 14 Pro. I have three cars with CarPlay, and the problem only occurs in My BMW. Yesterday, I got in my 330, started up, and my Apple Maps showed me about 500 feet from my home - meaning a 500 foot error. I checked on my phone, and the phone also showed me approximately 500 feet off. I shut off the car, got out, and walked about 50 feet away and within 10 seconds, the GPS corrected to my correct location on my iPhone. Clearly, something in my three series is creating some type of interference. It’s interesting that you drive at 340. I was beginning to think the issue might be electrical interference with all of the electronics in my 330e. I’m going to reach out to BMW tomorrow to open up a trouble call. Will let you know when I hear |

Yes, iDrive 8. Looks like it is an issue with the i4s that have 8 as well:

Spoke with genius at length this morning.
Not sure that they fully understand the issue, but they insisted that I do a triple reset on the iDrive system, followed by a sync with the My BMW app. The genius seems to think this will fix the problem. Time will tell, and I will keep you updated. To the extent any of you wish to try this fix as well, it requires you to start the car, hold the power button for the iDrive system down continuously until the system restarts for the third time, and after that restarting and re-syncing your My BMW app. |

It’s only been two days of driving… But so far, no problems after doing the triple reset.
I certainly don’t think this is definitive, but I will let you know how things develop a good. As I just purchased my car, I’m getting a lot of emails from BMW seeking customer satisfaction response, and I have requested them to reach out to me on this issue. I have not heard from them yet. |

With the car on, press, and hold the power button for the iDrive system. Hold it until the system turns off, turns back on, turns back off, and turns back on, off again and back on (three cycles).
Then - go to the My BMW app on your iPhone, and use your finger to slide the home screen down, in the same way that you refresh your emails. This will cause the app to re-sync. Then you’re done. For what it’s worth, I’m on my third day without the problem. Not suggesting that this is conclusive in any way, but hopefully my string of luck continues! |
