My M340i compared to the new M3

The m340 has about 400 hp lol. So you're telling me with a tune and down pipes, the m340 is gonna push the same amount of power if not more? An m3 for a lot more $$$ and not as good looking? Nooooo! Why why why lol!

Now I don't know if I want it anymore -_-

Ummm, it has been that way since the E9X, BUT power isn't everything. A first generation E92 335i could make E9X M3 power with bolt-ons. It still was no M3 though. There's chassis tuning and other things that set an ///M apart.

I have a somewhat stock F80 and a fully built 335is with every suspension upgrade you can do to a E9X chassis (+ full aluminum bushings all around) and a valved straight pipe exhaust that I can shut up when I want it to be quiet.

Quite frankly, I would pick up the keys to the 335is more often than the M3. Driving it makes me look like a middle aged hooligan lol. I take the M3 when I want some refinement but it's definitely more boring to drive on a daily basis.

If you want it just for power, you probably are better off without it. By the way, you could say that about every "lower" 3 series versus every M3.

  • Mission Performance Stage 2
  • CG Precision DS1 catted Downpipe
  • Some e85 to help our California 91 crap gas (probably will be about e30 equivalent)
  • AFE dry drop in filter

**very friendly disclaimer**
not a pissing match of M340 vs XYZ car (or even tune vs tune for that matter) - just curious what my car will put down with the aforementioned modifications - and will share what I find out for those that are interested too. Motor on

  • 463 Wheel HP
  • 493 Wheel Torque
  • For comparison "red" run is for a stock S85 (X3M) running full E85
  • Car is smooth, linear and pulls like a freight train
  • Add 10% or 11% (or whatever you believe to be true about drive-train loss) to get crank numbers

All - I should have added while Alex could have squeezed a couple more ponies out of the car for dyno/drag/draggy glory today - for Me at 49 (after many many modified cars) not really where my head or heart is at. I just wanted some nice solid pulls and a car that is happy and healthy to put down the power it does.

I think the car at this point is "optimized" for what I want - a smooth daily driver that seems like I simply checked an option box from the factory for more power - and something that I can beat the poop out of at our AutoX events and it will simply ask for more (this has been my experience with tuned cars by Alex in the past)

Is it "maximized/pushed to its' limit" no probably not....If you want more (from this basic setup) - I'm sure he will have the conversation with you but it really (likely) falls outside of what he considers responsible tuning (balancing performance with drivability and longevity) and his strategy for street cars. And at over 500 crank hp and 550 crank trq I'd be a fool to say otherwise. Just my 2-cents

ps- if you are local to me in Southern Orange County (HB) - I am always happy to meet up with anyone that wants to drive the car. Similar offers have certainly helped me over the years and I am happy to do the same for others :-)

Motor on

Wow!! Very, very nice! Not that the car didn't have enough oomph stock, but these numbers look delicious!

New M3 with an xDrive will be much faster even compare with stage2 M340i xDrive. S58 push so much power even in stock. When i see first results of x3M/x4M i understand that hybrid turbo on M340i makes no sense. If you want to be fast as hell you just need to earn money for new M3 xDrive.

thats very normal, in fact you can take any turbo BMW add a tune + the basic mods and it will make as much power as the more powerful model

we posted Youtube videos on how to make the N20/N26 as fast as the N55 , the N55 as fast as the S55 and the S55 as fast as some super cars

when it comes to raw power, aftermarket mods will always be a lot cheaper than upgrading the car model

This is off topic but does anybody have dyno information on the B58 engine in the G30? 'Official' HP is listed as 335; torque = 332. I am curious as to what the 'real' HP/torque numbers might be - Thanks.
