How smooth is the M340i?
Hi guys I owned a 335xi f30 and I'm thinking to buy the new G20 M340 xdrive. I was wondering how smooth it is in a lot of stop and go traffic situation?! Does it feel jerky between the gears? How is the car in general? Any issue at all?

I haven't received mine yet, hopefully taking delivery this month. But I've test driven a handful of different M340I's and I always notice right away how smooth and quiet the inside of the cabin is compared to my F36.
I did two "normal" test drives, as well as two different driving events where I was able to do more spirited driving. I also drove the 330I at another event and was impressed with how smooth but aggressive it felt for a base mode. I was able to get it sideways pretty easy. |

Super smooth especially if you op for 18" with non RFT tires.

Ride is great even in sport plus. Smooth effortless cruising, even at 80+ mph

Hi,
Even though I have run flats, my M340 is much smoother than my F30.

My new X340 has 19" non-rfs, but I was pleasantly surprised by the stock rfs on a 330 I tested. They are getting better. If you are trying to keep the options down, they are certainly acceptable.

It's butter. Absolutely melts through the gearing. Smooth as glass - a long on-ramp can result in triple-digit speeds all too easily. It'll make noise when you want it, or stay docile and discrete while you run-around town discretely. Sport+ obviously will result in some high-revs on braking as it keeps your gearing in the peak of the power-bands, but is still smooth and easy (albeit with an aggressive sound note) but all other drive modes are smooth up-and-down the stack.
For ride quality beyond simple transmission items. I'm on the 19" P-zero Summer RTF's, and enjoy them. Yes, there's different compounds and sizes that could make the butter even more buttery - but I love the grip when needed and am willing to swap 'em more frequently. I'm also running the Adaptive Suspension, so that may make another impact to the ride quality. |

My biggest gripe is also my biggest compliment with this car. The car is so smooth and so stable that its actually hard to keep it under legal road speeds. Coasting with barely putting my foot on the pedal I'm doing 85-90 mph on the freeway. I just look at my speedometer and I am surprised im doing 90 and immediately have to back off on the accelerator.
When I am in a playful mood and in Sport+/Sport Individual - the car just shifts so fast and efficiently, it is effortless to start breaking speed limits on the street. It has the Dr. Jekyall and Mr. Hyde personality down to a tee. It can be a docile grocery getter and with a press of a button, you can unleash a monster. |

Tried to get it without RFT but the dealer said I can't as they don't have BMW star on them. For some weird reason BMW approves only RFT winter tires. You can definitely hear a bit of additional noise and tires themselves are a bit on the firm side, but anyway the car is feels really comfortable. Can only image how it will feel in the summer, I have a usual non-RFT tires for that.
