Silver dash trim can blind driver
I was checking youtube videos and as I was watching this one I heard the comment about the silver blinding dash (go to 16.49 on the video)
I had a loaner couple of months ago and it was actually very disturbing blinding I still have my F30 and this blinding silver does keep me away from the G20, also have a 2019 X3 (no blinding glare there) Does it bother you or not wish there was an option for silver or something else |

No, it's not a problem at all. I saw the same review and observed that he made a couple of other observations that were off the mark. I think they concerned the performance, specifically the handling. This is a competent car.

I saw this video before. I wasn't sure if he was referring to the silver around the AC controls or the aluminum mesh trim on the full dash. I haven't had any issue with the small parts around the HVAC controls and vents. I have the dark open pour oak so I can't comment on the rest of the trim.

car is very competent no doubt!
he refers to the silver around the AC controls, when I had the loaner it was a sunny day and the glare was straight in my eyes, next time I get a loaner I will probably drive it more |

I haven't noticed this at all, even before I tinted my windows. The silver on the dash is more of a matte finish in my opinion. You're going to get more glare off BMW's glossy wood trim than the silver (which is why I went with matte wood).

I had several instances with my dashboard blinding me this summer. Usually when the sun was directly overhead.
I might try to put some tint on the piece of silver trim on the dashboard. |

Don't have my car yet so I can't provide my own opinion, but for whatever reason same reviewer loved the silver dash when he drove a 330i (see 28:13).
So maybe it comes down to how good or bad of a day one is having? I do my fair share of battling glare on sunny days, even with sunglasses. I do hope it's not an issue in this for me. |

Glare bothers some people more than others. I haven't driven a G20 yet, so I cannot comment on that car. However, I have found it a problem in other vehicles. The Mercedes GLC with the shiny wood in the middle is particularly nasty. I'm not the only one who thinks so. A buddy rented one and he had cover the center console with a sweater because of the glare. My 2013 XJ would nail me once in while from the chrome gear shift surround. I won't even consider a car of any make that has a big swathe of brushed aluminum on the dash in front of the passenger. Nope.

Doesn't bother me one bit.
I do, however, find the reflection of the central screen that I can see in the corner of my eye in the driver's door window at night slightly irritating. Slightly. A small detail that might have been engineered out at the design stage. |

I haven’t had an issue yet with the silver trim around the ac control. I have over 3000 miles on my car with most of it in broad daylight and no issues so far.

Only happens every once in a while when sun is at the right angle, not a major issue.

I've had my 2021 330i about a week. Was out driving today mid-day and the sun glare off the silver trim above the climate controls was really annoying. Made it harder to look at the screen. Not sure what to do about it, if anything.

I would say the problem exists with any car that has any reflective interior trim but is a rare occurrence experienced in my G20

I can testify that this is THE ONLY complain I have after more than a year of ownership.
Hate this trim piece from day one, it makes whole center console unusable when the sun hit you from the aft / right quarters. |

I know someone who ordered an X5 M50i, waited for build, took delivery then returned it same day due to blinding trim reflections. Some people just have different tolerances to this kind of thing. In my X3M with carbon gloss trim and some piano black at shifter I get glare occasionally but I block it out or move my head. NBD.
No issues for me in G20 with matte black oak. |
