The 12v outlet near cupholders does not work with my radar detector

Just picked up a 2019 330i. I noticed that when I plug in my radar detector in the electric socket, it doesn't work. However, it works in the back in the backseat.

Did anyone else go through similar? Do I need to take it to service or do I need to get an adapter of sorts?

I am having the same trouble with my rear socket. I am not sure if it not making good contact and needing an adaptor like I have seen discussed on several threads or if it’s a battery issue due to the fact my replace battery warning needs to be reset.

I’m technically challenges but looking for answers as well.

I was just checking mine today--both the front and back jacks work with my Garmin, but the front one by the cup-holders doesn't work with a 12V USB plug I have while the back seat and trunk plugs do.

I suspect it has to do either with the depth and/or the shape of the plugs. I had to use a blade to get the USB plug back out in the back seat jack, it was so flush.

I experienced the same issue. It does have to do with the shape of the socket.

The adapter for my V1 works in the front, while the adapter for my Escort Max360 does not. However, the V1 power cable works with the Escort detector, so that's my ultimate solution.

The socket works fine with my uniden r3 detector plug. But it doesn't shut off when shutting the engine off or exiting the car. The manual indicates that all electrical consumers shut down in the idle state. How can i fix this. Its a pain to unplug the detector each time i leave the car.

In my F30 the cigarette plugs will stay on for about 10 min after engine stop and turn off after the car goes idle, like you said. If it works the same in the G20, you shouldn't need to unplug the detector.

Seems odd to stay on an extra 10 minutes after car is off and doors are closed and locked.

I thought so too. It's actually nice because my dash cam stays on a bit longer after I park in case something goes down as I walk away from my car.

Solved

I ended up buying an extender/splitter from Amazon and plugging in my radar detector into it. Nothing too clunky, but it does the job.

So does the m340i cigarette lighter actually go out after 10 minutes?

I’ll second this as well, Escort adapter does not work in the cigarette lighter adaptor in the front but does work in the back. Noticed with other adaptors I have for the front you have to push down really hard to get a good connection on the front .

I just picked up a 2020 m340i last night and have the same issue (doesn't work front / does in the back) with my iXc. I'll try my 9500 when I get home tonight and see if that plug fits better.

Update - i switched to my 9500 power cord and it worked... so definitely an issue based on the plug being used.

Funny, I had the same issue with the front 12V socket. I twisted the adapter a bit and it seems to be working.

The 12v outlet in front near the cup holders does not seem to be working with my older model (but super reliable) radar detector. When I plug it into the rear seat 12v outlet the detector turns on just fine. Am i missing something? Are the front/back outlets different?

The front outlet is narrower at the bottom, so the plug may simply not be able to go in far enough to make contact.

Depending on your RD brand, the cable for the Valentine 1 works in the front whereas the Escort cable does not. I am running an Escort Max 360 and it works with the cable from my V1.

Does the v1 cord adapter have a mute button? And does the same mute button work with with the escort?

Indeed outlets seem to differ slightly.

In the new cars, the cup holder outlet is specifically designed for a cigarette lighter, not an accessory.
