Navi MGU_F_APN dead

Hi all I have run into problems with my navigation. It is about ALPINE MGU_F_APN. My 12v battery went dead and the assistance service started the vehicle using the starter booster. I guess my navigation died because of this. The screen is black ISTA is reporting the unit as unavailable. Power to the unit is going. So it is not a fuse. So I'm looking at replacing it. I don't want to go to BMW. This is a 3 year old car and replacing the nav system would probably be very expensive. I've read about some sort of protection for the unit from being reused after being stolen. If I get this unit new do I need to just code it afterwards? I understand that when buying a used unit from ebay it would probably be difficult to do. But is a new one OK?
Thanks in advance for any experience. Can anyone here, maybe remotely, do this?
