Thoughts on when to purchase one?

I am wondering if these will effectively be as pedestrian as the 3/4 series and these can be had at a decent discount in a year. What are people's thoughts on pre-order vs wait?

I will wait as this is a new body (G26 Gran Coupe) with a new powertrain. Violates just about every primary quality strategy used by, for example, Toyota. I will wait to let the plant get several months of high volume assembly experience and for some field experience (from those who cannot wait) to feedback on issues that inevitably will arise.

There may be some savings for waiting, but the hassle of dealing with in-field new issues is my primary motivator for patience. I gave up caring about "first on the block" nonsense many years ago.

Good point, I had a 135i year one of the one. First adopters get all the QC headaches

I have not reserved the i4, but will order it as soon as possible if the price is right. Since I'm leasing the car through the company anyway, I don't mind that I may have teething problems with the car.

The i4 M50 will replace my BMW M2.

My current G20 lease will end July 2022.
I think the most possible outcome is to order early next year and extend my lease while wait for delivery?
