Mine has never installed by itself (having tried every remedy) and it’s always been done by the dealer.
The new update downloaded to my phone, got as far as 8% in the car then disconnected and won’t connect despite turning off Android and doing everything else.
Can’t be bothered anymore. My car goes out of warranty in a month and the software issues I’ve had means I won’t be downloading anything else to it.

Bloody hate this technology. It's utter crap.

So my mobile and car will not connect APPS so I can't complete the update. Somehow I managed to get to 44% preparation and since then, car and app will not speak to each other.

Logged out of app and back in again, and the download disappeared and I had to do it again. Not that that made much difference as car/app still wouldn't talk to each other.

Hard reset iDrive and that didn't work. All it did was log me out of Spotify and I can't seem to log back in (as I am in a dead zone).

Really bored, so giving up.

That’s pretty much how mine went…… then worked!?!

And start stop that wasn’t working now is again!

Here’s hoping there are no more updates for a while!!!

Other than waiting an age for the update to become available the update process has always worked ok for me.

May be total rubbish but are you sat on the drive and your phone is switching between your home wifi and the car wifi? All I can think.

This is the worst part of the update process. For me then the installation ready message will pop up at the most inconvenient times and not show up when I am parking for more than 30 minutes.... pain!

Isn't it much better with the mild hybrids now since they have a much larger battery?

I think this is the main issue for many people, if you are in a poor signal area the car can’t connect or more likely the download errors and if the downloaded packets don’t match what’s expected it restarts from 0%. It’s basically the really poor infrastructure in the UK that’s to blame.

[RANT]Don’t even get me started on the rollout of 5G whilst my home struggles to get a half strength 3G signal due to our village’s tower not being commercially viable to upgrade despite there being 1,900 dwellings. [/RANT]

Depends how the transfer is done. Do we know for sure? Does the car download it directly using the cellular network and the built-in SIM? Or does the update download to your phone first and then gets sent to the car (via Bluetooth or WiFi)?

There's also an option in the app to allow you to download over mobile data and not just Wi-Fi, you might find that helps so long as you have a good data plan

So it completed the preparation, and I went to the supermarket and let it upload. All done and dusted.

Of course, have to say "what an anti-climax", though the rev counter in SPORTS ONLY does now work, which was the main reason for me wanting it. Still as soon as I got home, up popped the ******* RingGo notification.

Mine finally said update time this week. Uploaded to car ok but seems to be waiting for the full moon to install. I put the car on a CTEK charger all day yesterday and says will install and still nothing so far.

I'm so glad I found out from this forum never to touch the RingGo app.

You can take some comfort from that

It's a parking app that actually works pretty well. Turn up to a car park, hit the app (unless you have it set to notify you all the time), choose how long you want to park for and that's it.

It's just that I don't want to be notified about parking every time I stop, esp when I get home, 2 miles from the closest car park that has RingGo. Of course it's a 1st world problem that plays on my OCD. Has a setting in the app to not show notification, but for some reason it resets itself very often.

I haven’t check the rev counter, yet….. going for a blast to the coast with a mate in his Alfa later, will see if the new country road lane keeping assist has stopped occasionally chucking me towards a farmers field…….
Never bothered with RingGo as the car parks I use have so many different apps. I assume if you did install RingGo there is then some control on the bmw app? Ie to extend parking times?

Mine finally offered the update and then wouldn't install. I tried charging the battery until the CTEK went green and still no joy.

I finally wasn't using it for a few days so left it on charge the whole time and it did it instantly after that!

Very glad to get the HUD rev counter back.

Just a data point for others -

My m440i was stuck on 07/2020 and lane change turning back on was very annoying (borderline dangerous). OTA update wasn’t working, so I took it to the dealer and they updated it free of charge. I just told them OTA isn’t working and I believe there’s a bulletin from BMW that covers this update under warranty.
