Pirelli P7 Cinturato
My car came with square 225 P7 All Season RFTs. My question is if anyone has used the 255s for rears? Tire rack says they should be OK but looks like they are not BMW approved.

It really is a size too large for the stock wheel. Best to go with a staggered wheel setup if you want that sort of fit. Or, just stick with the square setup, which, realistically, isn't a bad thing at all.

Are you xDrive? You should be at least at a 1% threshold so you don't damage the transfer case. My car came with the same exact setup as yours with a 225 square on Pirelli P7 Cinturato. I too also swapped them out with Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+, the new sizes are 245 in the front and 275 in the rear on xDrive. Obviously I swapped out the stock wheels too.

You can use a site like "willtheyfit.com" to compare your current set up to your proposed set up to see the percent difference in diameter

For staggered set up, what rims are you getting?
Am I correct in assuming: Front: 19/8 Rear: 19/8.5 ?

I have that same staggered setup on my 2019 440i, they replaced OEM 19" Potenza. I have about 15K miles on them and I've had no issues. They're not as sticky as the Potenza but in Miami traffic, don't often have the chance to push it.

For xDrive vehicles, there's a requirement to keep the rolling diameter of all tires to be within a percent of each other. I think its something to do with how xDrive does power distribution and straying from the 1% lights your dash up and you get drivetrain malfunction errors. The transfer case is what splits power between the axles.
