Exhaust flap in open position
Does anyone have sound bits or info on the sound the M340i exhaust makes after the valve has been disconnected in the open position. Do sports mode, comfort mode and eco pro mode sound the same ie loud

Engine tuning changes depending on drive mode too. So comfort and eco pro will be a little louder, but not by much. Sport will be the same as the valve is open in that mode anyway.

Can confirm there is a difference even in Sports mode. I have valves fully open via the JB4 and Sports mode the exhaust overrun is especially louder and more prominent at lower RPM. Even as low as 1.5-2k

Alternatively, if you have Bimmerlink, you can manipulate the exhaust flap via the app, and unplug the connector that way. AFAIK, the valve settings reset so you can't just open them via Bimmerlink and call it a day.

^ Interesting.
I guess I should've tried this before ordering the AWE exhaust. Oh well, I'll just wait for my exhaust to arrive |

The connector is between the heat shield. The heat shield is bolted in. There is absolutely no way it can come out.

There is simply no comparison between opening the exhaust flap and the AWE exhaust. Perhaps you were being sarcastic and I didn't pick up on it If so my apologies.....either way you made the right choice and can't wait to read your impressions of your new exhaust

Just to be sure, that dummy encase, is just for preventing water and others to get in or it will prevent the error code to appear in a code reader?

The dummy flap actuator has a capacitor in it, I don't know what its for, maybe to stop the engine code but I don't know. You can get a male and a female actuator for both ends of the cable

I have mine just unplugged with nothing in it and it does not throw a code. I've been to the dealer few times with it like that also.

The reason why that is, even at operating temperature BMW keeps valves closed until you exceed 30mph, even in sports plus mode. So having the valve open all the time makes a huge difference at low speed and it sounds nice on a cold start too (if you're into that). When I had the stock exhaust it was a huge "upgrade" for me, unplugging the exhaust valve in the open position. |
