Thanks for the summary.

Not too bad pricing considering you have the BMW assistance too.. - particularly if you pay lump sum cost.

Min sis up in October. Never had one on my M140i - it was 3.5yrs old and 85,000miles at time of write off.. However with rapid purchase of ex BMW 330d xdrive with many toys it may be prudent to have BMW warranty given the tech and fact it's diesel too..

edited to add may cost more as a 330d... anyone with comparable quote for that engine?

Anyone knows the cost for the M340i? I can't get a quote yet. I think the one with the £100 excess is the best value.

Just out of interest, how long you guys keep your cars? My current car (which was a factory order in 2002 -- yes, one owner from new) has 219,000 miles on it and is almost 20 years old.

Cover for 100,000 miles is not really that impressive, some people do that in 5 or even 3 years, and those years are likely to be trouble free. The problems start later when the car is older and has more miles on it.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Had a few issues with cars 3-5 years old with well under 100k on the clock. Not that I usually keep mine for anything like that long - generally get itchy fingers after about 2 1/2 years.

It’s not the 100k that’s impressive it’s the fact it’s wear and tear for 100k.if you can find any other policy for that price with that cover I’d be impressed.

Better giving you a list of what's not covered.

I wasn't trying to compare with other policies. I was questioning whether it's worth having it at all.

It really depends on what is and isn't covered. Apart from your normal oil changes, filters, spark plugs etc. the other regular wear and tear items are tyres and brakes, brake fluid changes, batteries and wiper blades.

So if the £700 per year covered all the above then it might be worth it.

Remember that they make a profit out of these policies...

100% concur with this.

I had an E31 20 yrs ago and BMW paid up many £k in warranty claims over 3 years, 2 new doors (internal rust), new sunroof (rust again), 2 wiper motors, 3 HRW, A/C condenser, various plumbing etc., etc.,

Then on an E60 M5, new clutch hydraulics, labour for new clutch but not clutch itself, weird.

Agree with you on this one.
Clutch would be a ‘wear and tear’ item and not normally covered.
Crap I know but the rest of the expensive items were and that’s the whole point behind an extended warranty after all.
I personally wouldn’t ever not have a BMW covered by one because the repair costs if something significant goes seriously tits up can be eye-wateringly expensive.
Know someone who’s turbo lunched itself on a E92 335i which p***ed oil down the manifold into the cat and shagged the whole system from turbos to exhaust mid-section. Four weeks out of manufacturers warranty and even with having d fought for goodwill from BMW still cost him the thick end of three grand!
So the lesson to be learnt as far as I was concerned was don’t skimp on an extended warranty and the BMW one which although may be more expensive than other aftermarket ones is a no quibble, no nonsense package in my experience.

Just received a quote from BMW Sytner to renew my warranty. Seems decent but I can't see any price reduction for increase excess.

I read this as Sytner's own warranty package, not the BMW insured warranty.

How does it compare for T&C's? For example, has it 'wear and tear' cover like BMW's own policy?

Not had the chance to read it yet and I have never had to take a warranty extension before as I normally go new every 3 years.
Have attached some details. Why would they offer a reduced or lesser quality warranty than the BMW insured one?

I see there is no wear and tear cover... BMW's warranty has wear and tear, up to 100,000 miles. Cover includes suspension components. For example, something like a leaking damper is covered. Over a specific mileage, it means you get a pair of dampers. Soon mounts up if you have adaptive suspension.

Just so you know, I'll put the quotes and excess down for my 330i to give you all a bit of an idea as to what you can expect to pay.

Comprehensive Cover
Comprehensive: our highest level of protection, covering the majority of your BMW's components. Includes wear and tear for covered components for the first 100,000 miles

£0.0 Excess - £707 one of payment per annum or £76 per month
£100 Excess - £522 per one of payment per annum or £57 per month
£250 Excess - £422 one of payment per annum or £48 per month

Named Component
Named Component: mechanical and electrical breakdown cover for a wide range of your vehicle's components, available on vehicles with up to 100,000 miles

£0.0 Excess - £596 one of payment per annum or £65 per month
£100 Excess - £466 per one of payment per annum or £52 per month
£250 Excess - £385 one of payment per annum or £44 per month

Driveline Warranty
DriveLine: the basic level of warranty, covering the main engine, transmission and drive-train components, with a claim limit of up to £5,000

£0.0 Excess - £488 one of payment per annum or £54 per month
£100 Excess - £397 per one of payment per annum or £46 per month
£250 Excess - £341 one of payment per annum or £40 per month

All the above include Roadside Assistance.

If you want none of the above then you have the following options for Roadside Assistance.

Roadside Assistance £156 per year

Roadside Assistance Essential £69 per year

No monthly options on those.

They are certainly hammering us with the interest payments so I opted for the one off fee.
Thanks for this. How long is the extended warranty for?

Those prices are per year, you can renew every year until you hit 100,000 miles.

Just received my extended warranty quote and it mirrors the OP's. for reference my car is a 320d. I would normally have paid the lump sum but having messed about with the mileage submission the payments more than double after 60,000 miles. Looking back through the thread several posters pay monthly and it would appear that it doesn't change at 60k. The car is at around 45k at the moment and am thinking the pay monthly looks to be the best option. I am planning to keep it for several years so it would be good to know (from those with experience) what happens when it hits circa 100k? I'm assuming you have to declare the mileage annually? Apologies for all the questions - my previous car was a Kia so never had to consider warranty extension

What you have to remember, for the vast majority of owners, 100k is a lot of miles, would take me 10 yrs to accumulate that.

Also, when you have an engine let go, like what happened in my 120i at about 8 yrs old and its replaced without any cost, then it's worth every penny. Also had both wing mirrors replaced because of noisy motors, both headlights due to excessive condensation and a fair few other bits.

End of the day, you pays your money and take your choice but I'd never run a car like this out of warranty as everything costs a fortune to repair.

Well, that didn't take long. Comprehensive cover taken out Mid April and have already had to take advantage of it. Horrible burning smell from engine, red warning triangle telling me to pull in safely. Picked up on the motorway by recovery last night and whisked to my preferred BMW dealer (Douglas Park Stirling). Too late for a courtesy car but recovery got me safely home. Dealer called this morning, told me they have already identified a seized pulley and would rush it through today. Car collected at four o'clock and now sitting back on my drive. First class service from start to finish - My advice (FWIW) is to get cover as soon as it is out of warranty, I'd be mightily peed off if I had to pay for that myself one month out of warranty

I am assuming that this is including roadside assistance?

I renewed mine in April and it was £339 with £250 excess. I didn't need roadside assistance as I have it already through another policy.
