Gesture Control

Does anyone use it? I had it on initially but a few too many animated gestures caused unwanted song skips.

It’s a pointless gimmick in my opinion.

Only thing I use it for is to mute now and again, and it does that far too often unintentionally.
Only need to breathe near it for it to think I'm doing the mute "v" sign.

The rest is so hit and miss that it's quicker just to press the button on the screen or twiddle the volume.

Even if it worked flawlessly it’s still very difficult to see the point.

Oddly enough, I do actually use it but for skipping to next track only haha
Now that you mention it, my input method with the software is all over the place.

Anything idrive settings etc im generally using the rotary wheel.
Volume up and down on the steering wheel.
The Touchscreen for parking assistant and for car play.
Gesture control for skipping to next track.
Map address input my phone

Apologies all, but looks like I may have been one of the consumers that BMW was targeting with all the different methods available haha

I Only used the rotary wheel in my last 2 cars

I do love the sheer number of input methods that BMW offer but gesture control does feel like that step too far thanks to everything else. Glad to hear I'm not alone!

After all the bad reviews on here I turned it off the day I took delivery.

5% of it's use was showing people how "neat" it was. 95% of it's use was accidental hand expression so it was turned off.

I use it for turning the volume up and down occasionally, and muting (with the v fingers)

What I do use on a daily basis is the "return to home gesture" of opening hand in front of it twice when setting off from my current destination. I find this one of most benefit.

Overall though I could happily live without it! In other news my left side of Harmon Kardon has conked it so it's back into Sytner end of the month! first world problems I guess though!

I have tried to get on with it but now it's switched off as it was a pain. The sad thing is it wouldn't surprise me if bmw or others get rid of even more buttons on the steering wheel and only have voice control, gesture and a screen.

Interesting that you use steering wheel buttons for volume and gesture for track skipping - I find it easier to use steering wheel buttons for volume and arrows below those for track skipping. All down to personal choice though.
I find I’m using voice control more and more these days and like finding new things to use it for - so big thumbs up from me for that feature 👍

I use it all the time and it works 99% skipping tracks and turning volume up & down. You just of to get use to it! Helps keeping my buttons and idrive controller CLEAN!

Is there a full list of voice commands published anywhere?

It uses NLP so there's no fixed list.

I too, seem to use just about every combo including the gesture control - muting with the V-sign is quite cathartic

But there must be a list of things it can do, no matter how they are phrased. It won’t “indicate left” for example. The system only interacts with certain bits of the car.

All the time, it works great but there again I speak with my mouth and not my hands so never have a problem with it.

I was wondering whether I had it on or not, so I twirled my finger to turn the volume down (as the volume is the only gesture that I can get to work consistently) and it was on.

Never use gesture, and with the volume, I can never get a level I want anyway.

Feel the same as others, in that it is pointless gimmick.

I use it to swipe away the traffic news pop-ups, but not much else.
