Upshift sound

When I hear some other bmw speed pass me and the car upshifts I hear a small growl almost like it has a BOV but I know our cars doesn't use BOV.

Is the sound coming from the aftermarket exhaust or the down pipe change?

The m340i used to do a little grunt on upshifts before the most recent update

Mine actually does it but not as loud as I hear it on other cars. I just don't know if it is the exhaust change or downpipe that makes it fart louder on upshifts

This will have more to do with the DME (cars ECU) vs the exhaust or DP (2020's will have this more pronounced). As an example with my Mission Performance Stage 2 flash my car has a tremendous amount of upshift sound in Sport+ but little to none in comfort because that's how I have it set up. A downpipe or exhaust will only amplify what is there but will not make something out of nothing

Mine has always done it but it's even louder now that I have the AA downpipe.

Makes lots of sense.... I do hear it more on mine in sport plus mode with my bm3 stage 1. However, I am still on stock exhaust and dp

Probably you guys already know, but just in case… Try Sport+ mode and go in manual transmission. When you push the throttle to the floor and wait until you're almost at the maximum limit in RPM, manual upshift and it should make a nice sound that you get only when you manually up shift. It's not working when you're on automatic. It's not working either if you don't have the pedal to the floor and wait the max limit RPM before shifting.

Try that and let me know!

Can anyone confirm this works for the 2021+ mild hybrid cars? It's hard to find videos of people driving in manual mode.

Probably not. BMW did their best to take all the fun out of 2021+ cars.

They changed exhaust tune for 2021+ car. So 2021+ cars doesn't sound as good as 2020 cars. There is no pops, burbles, upshift sounds and also DME is locked so can't tune it as of this moment.

As far as wireless charging, I find it pointless. My Tesla Model 3 had it and I didn't really care for it. Wireless charging is WAY slower than charging with a cable and it makes phone too hot.

Does your car sound like this when upshifting? My 2022 M340 doesn't make the same sound.

Check out 13:42 and 14:26

there is a side by side comparison here for 2020 and 2021. you can definitely tell the difference.

my 22 has HUD and touchscreen but no digital key or wireless charging. All of the above are affected by the chip shortage

I have a 2022 and I am pissed lol. I have AA catted dp waiting to be installed and will probably order Dinan or AWE exhaust as well however these will only amplify what’s in there. They are not suddenly make my car sound like a 2020.

I'm so glad that before buying the M340i, I've already watched this specific video about the sound difference between the 2020 and 2021 model. I bought a used 2020 model with only 27,000 km on it (16777 miles). I chosen the 2020 exactly for the sound difference reason. And it's by pure luck that I found that video. I was not even looking for that info.

Anyway, I don't understand why BMW did that! In 2035 where I live, new cars are only going to be electric, so we need to enjoy the gas motor sound the most we can before that!

Didn't know there would be such a huge difference in sound
