Touchscreen deletion…or not

Realise there are already posts on this topic but dealer gave me an update today on status of car

Ordered at start of Aug 21, pencilled in for build early March after slipping several times.

Knew about some of the deletions such as lumbar for passenger, wireless charging etc but was told before Xmas that my car would also not have touchscreen functionality and lately the new deletion of the idrive touchpad

He gave me a screenshot today which now shows no deletion of touchscreen and no mention of I drive touchpad deletion

Who knows but maybe I got lucky or things are getting better regarding chip shortages OR I will get another screenshot showing deletion nearer the build

I have seen a couple of comments on here now about touchscreen maybe being back on builds again so perhaps this is the case.

Hoping mine may be in the same position as I have an expected build and delivery week of 8 and 11 as things stand.

Hopefully if touchscreen is back the reverse assist is also back on as that is something I have used in my current M135i and found it of use in tight spots.

I'd check with the dealer. Sometimes the codes get added later on, post-production.

That matches my understanding. The deleted options work is done at the local VPC before going to the dealer so the factory codes won’t show it.

Wow, thought my M440i ordered mid August, originally due Mid October, built 9th November, still sat at factory until recall code sorted was a longtime.

My understanding is that anything can happen with deletions (or not) until the car gets a VIN number.

Over in the main Gxx forum the consensus seemed to be that touchscreen deletion was only present for a few weeks. BMW reportedly sourced another provider but as the chipset is different it appeared they're still updating the iDrive software for full compatibility, so features such as CarPlay are temporarily unavailable pending a software upgrade later in the year.

Treat this as hearsay, just summarising what I've read elsewhere on the forums.

I'm waiting, without much anticipation tbh as I don't care either way, to see if my car has had it deleted or not, my VIN read only mentions the passenger lumbar delete despite being told by dealer that touch screen would also be removed. Its been sat in port since the 4th Jan though and I believe cars have been at port for a while previously due to needing to be updated with software to take account of deleted touchscreens. Whether its that or just availability of transport remains to be seen. I'll let you know, hopefully early next week, whether my build has it or not.

My build was week 1, vin read says i have lumbar only that's been deleted, my dealer has always told me my screen wasn't being deleted, should be delivered within 2 weeks... I would prefer to have touchscreen, certainly let you know soon as I take delivery but looks promising.

Guess I've been lucky, car ordered end of Sept, collected it 2 days before Xmas.

I have passenger lumbar support, but no touchscreen. Not fussed, as I never used it......and was happy to get £500 back for the deletion

I expected my car to have this deletion but when I collected it my SA told me specifically that touch screen was in.
When I get in the car the screen does nothing so I guess I was right after all.

By this do you mean the touchpad on top of the iDrive knob?

I'm in 2 minds about the touchpad atop iDrive knob. It gets in the way a lot but is useful for inputting rather than using the dial. Far prefer other manufacturers who flash up a keyboard.

Being right-handed and the idrive controller is on the left, I find it particularly difficult to use!

You do get a keyboard. When it's touchscreen. Just poke the screen on an entry instance. Seems like they are removing two of the easier entry options now with touchpad and touchscreen going... Soon need a chisel and hammer to enter data - OLD tablet styley!

Keyboard on the touchscreen is my normal way of entering addresses etc. it’s far more reliable than voice and much faster than using the rotary knob.

I find the quickest is acutally just to use your phone app do plot your router, then send it to the car

Unfortunately that only accepts one waypoint. I like to make a journey that’s home to wherever and then back again, so that the car can optimise the battery usage on both legs of the journey.

Well blow me down, so I do. Never really looked into it that much. I do note that you have to put in a space between the 2 sets of numbers when using postcode

I'm picking up a 330e Touring on Friday (built mid-December), and the dealer has just confirmed that the touchscreen is present.
