G20 Buzzing Noise When Accelerating
Hello,
Has anyone experience a really high-pitched noise when accelerating? I attached a video below: If so, has anyone got it fixed? Last edited by omarBMW; 01-31-2022 at 12:36 AM.. |

Ok so, here's more information on the problem. I hear a weird buzzing noise as shown in the video when touching the gas at a low rpm (1500-2k rpm), almost as if that deep rumble of the engine is vibrating the car at the perfect frequency to create the rattle. Here are some more videos I found with some people with the same problem:
Notice that they are barely touching the gas. Has anyone experienced this? |

I am noticing something like this lately, even though I can't quite hear it in your videos. I thought it might be coming from various items in my glove box (sounds like that direction) so I emptied it out, and it persisted.
Do you find that the vibration noise increases as the car stays in gear, then drops when the car shifts to higher gear? (not necessarily indicating a transmission issue as much as maybe vibration from higher revs)? |

In my case I discovered the noise was coming from the plastic speaker cover grill in center of dash. I have the sensatec dash if that matters.. I think on days when the sun hits the dash, it causes some expansion that's causing it to rattle during high revs. Putting my hand over the grill and pushing it causes the noise to stop for a while. I will look into solutions for a permanent fix later, just glad to know its something minor.

Mine does the same thing on acceleration. Usually on surface street speeds in lower RPMs. It has gotten pretty annoying so I will mention it when my car goes in for service.

Yes definitely hear it in the video as I have been experiencing this since day one. However not very regular and have noticed more during summer days. Definitely feels like it comes from behind the digital cluster.
Anybody found exact fix for it? |

I swear this happens often for me, but of course when I take it to the dealer it can’t be replicated. I had a video which they agreed sounded crazy, but without being able to scope it out in person we couldn’t do anything. Set up an appointment a couple of weeks from now to take another look. I’ll keep you updated.

I'll try to make note of the conditions that produce the noise from here on out. |

Is the lid to your cup holder open or closed? I had a similar noise that I attributed to the center speaker grill that everyone speaks of. I did the felt tape and no joy. I then realized it's coming from the cup holder area. If I close the lid over the cup holder the noise disappears. I considered having them replace the lid mechanisms as it's probably a loose spring but didn't want anyone tearing my dash apart. Now when it happens if there isn't a drink in the cup holder I just close the lid and it's gone. Hope this brings you a resolution.
