G20 Buzzing Noise When Accelerating

Hello,

Has anyone experience a really high-pitched noise when accelerating? I attached a video below:

If so, has anyone got it fixed?

omarBMW I'm having trouble hearing it in the video. I have not experience that problem.

Ok so, here's more information on the problem. I hear a weird buzzing noise as shown in the video when touching the gas at a low rpm (1500-2k rpm), almost as if that deep rumble of the engine is vibrating the car at the perfect frequency to create the rattle. Here are some more videos I found with some people with the same problem:

Notice that they are barely touching the gas.

Has anyone experienced this?

I am noticing something like this lately, even though I can't quite hear it in your videos. I thought it might be coming from various items in my glove box (sounds like that direction) so I emptied it out, and it persisted.

Do you find that the vibration noise increases as the car stays in gear, then drops when the car shifts to higher gear? (not necessarily indicating a transmission issue as much as maybe vibration from higher revs)?

It's really hard to hear in the videos, but the sound I am referring to sounds like its coming from behind the instrument cluster. It's weird because the vibration only starts after about 30 mins of driving, or when the engine is warm, and then only happens in a certain rev range. In the videos, try listening for a high-pitch electrical noise.

In my case I discovered the noise was coming from the plastic speaker cover grill in center of dash. I have the sensatec dash if that matters.. I think on days when the sun hits the dash, it causes some expansion that's causing it to rattle during high revs. Putting my hand over the grill and pushing it causes the noise to stop for a while. I will look into solutions for a permanent fix later, just glad to know its something minor.

If it is the speaker cover, the solution is to remove it and place felt or electrical tape over the tabs on the cover that fit into the speaker cover tab holes.

There is a thread on it here somewhere.

Thanks, I saw that thread after posting that message. I was reluctant to post here in case the OP's noise is something different entirely, but I guess it can't hurt:

Mine does the same thing on acceleration. Usually on surface street speeds in lower RPMs. It has gotten pretty annoying so I will mention it when my car goes in for service.

Yes definitely hear it in the video as I have been experiencing this since day one. However not very regular and have noticed more during summer days. Definitely feels like it comes from behind the digital cluster.

Anybody found exact fix for it?

I swear this happens often for me, but of course when I take it to the dealer it can’t be replicated. I had a video which they agreed sounded crazy, but without being able to scope it out in person we couldn’t do anything. Set up an appointment a couple of weeks from now to take another look. I’ll keep you updated.

Please keep us updated, very keen on getting this fixed. Also, did you notice that the issue only happens after 20-30 min of driving?

I was thinking that might be the case - which might explain why we could not reproduce it at the dealer. But oddly enough, it did not do it after leaving and driving around a good bit during the day

I'll try to make note of the conditions that produce the noise from here on out.

Can hear it clearly ($1,500 headphones lol). Sounds like an electrical noise/buzzing. Let me know if you solve it / discover the source!

It definitely isn't consistent, which is the annoying part. I live in Canada, so a colder climate, and it feels like it's more common when the weather is a lot colder, but maybe that's just a coincidence.

Is the lid to your cup holder open or closed? I had a similar noise that I attributed to the center speaker grill that everyone speaks of. I did the felt tape and no joy. I then realized it's coming from the cup holder area. If I close the lid over the cup holder the noise disappears. I considered having them replace the lid mechanisms as it's probably a loose spring but didn't want anyone tearing my dash apart. Now when it happens if there isn't a drink in the cup holder I just close the lid and it's gone. Hope this brings you a resolution.

I am having the exact same issue. Dealership was stumped with it today. Did anyone get a solution to resolve this?
