Any hint for those planning to track M340ix from time to time?
Looking for the 18" set and planning to use 235or245 front and 265or275 rear tires, Nankang AR1. My M340ix having bigger front calipers and 374mm rotors. Some guys managed to fit 18" OZ Ultraleggera and OZ Alleggerita. Any offering from Apex in 18" for this setup? For those tracking M340ix, are you experiencing any challenge re Xdrive and different wheel size? |

The initial wheels we will be producing for this chassis will be 19s so they shouldn't have any clearance issues even with that larger brake package, but we would still like to have a scan on file if we see enough demand for 18s. Quote:
Based on the survey feedback and customers that reached out, we will be launching with a staggered 19" setup first. Our 19x9.5 ET25 Supra wheel is actually a much better fit than we first thought, but it pokes a bit in the rear, and clearance around the front suspension is tight. We are doing more tire testing with that setup in the near future, but it may become our go-to square fitment for these cars once we dial in tire fitment. If we see enough demand for 18s, we may produce them in the future but they are not currently in development. -Tom

We've talked about 18" forged options for this car as we can produce them in lower amounts per run, but I like 18" flow formed wheels as it fits the budget wheel and tire option better to keep the cost of sets low especially for customers running multiple sets. Forged wheels would be great though and we have new forged lines that will be making an appearance soon. With that in mind, we are looking for another car in the bay area for more fitment testing and some photography! You would need to be lowered on either lowering springs or coilovers with excellent inner clearance (no KW or conical Bilstiens) and it would be for a photoshoot as well. If you have a clean car and would like some photos and APEX swag or a potential discount on wheels please let us know! The car would need to be in the bay area and if you have the ZTK package or the 374mm M Performance brakes that would be a nice cherry on top! -Tom

Unless you have some ultra high clearence 18inch wheel I don't think running 18's with ZTK is worth it, its very close even stock. Keep up the good work to make this platform move forward, now if we could get some camber plates...

OEM setup I have is: 225/40/19 8x19 ET27 255/35/19 8.5x19 ET40 Brakes: ZCP (33T for Europe) 374mm I’m aiming square 265/35/19 setup for track days. Somehow within the % thresholds you mentioned above, diameter the same front vs. rear and within 3% vs. OEM 18” can be challenging to fulfill those % requirements vs. OEM Regarding wheels my tendency is 9x19 (9.5x19 I see unnecessary) and ET’s aiming ET20-25 front and ET35-40 rear. |

The work is in progress! We have front and rear brake scans for 2 of the brake packages on this car but are still looking for a volunteer with the ZTK package/374mm M Performance brakes for laser scanning in the Bay area.
Heres an idea of what these test fitments and brake scans look like! We're also hunting for a car on lowering springs as well to test a specific aggressive square fitment using our 19x9.5 ET25 wheels. We have a new volunteer form for photoshoot/testfitment applicants that should make volunteering your car easier. I'll recycle another forum post with that info here: Paging BMW owners in the Bay area! If you're interested in free professional photos of your car on brand new APEX wheels, we are looking for volunteers for testfiitting and photoshoots! Volunteers will get copies of the photos, a discount on a set of APEX wheels, and APEX goodies/swag. If you're interested in volunteering, please fill out and submit our online form. All are welcome. Show us what you've got! If you'd like to take an inside look at what these photoshoots involve, our good friend Blake made a video detailing the process of an 18" test fitment on his F82 M4 recently: Lastly, we've finalized some initial fitments in a 19" diameter for the G20 3 series. I can't yet release details on them, but the project is moving forward. We will be getting a sample set produced and shipped over once changes at our factory are made. No ETAs yet, but the wheels are definitely coming! -Tom

Seems like 265/35-19 would offer a good choice of tires and a nice gain in grip.

We used the following wheel and tire for testfitting: 19x9.5 ET25 Supra wheel (Identical Bore and Bolt pattern to the G20) with a 275/30-19 Michelin PS4S No spacers were used for any of these photos. Car was: Stock M340i, stock suspension and alignment: Front Our wheel on the left, Slight difference in width compared to the OE front wheel and tire Overall, The front fitment looks good to me on the outside edge. It's aggressive but lines up well with the body and the shorter tire tucks at the top even with the OE alignment. Not terrible for a track or aggressive street fitment. Inner clearance up front: Extremely tight clearances noted between this wheel and the factory front struts. The wheel and tire clear the strut body barely, but with tire flex on track, the tire would likely touch the strut body. The tire and wheel also barely sit below the front spring perch on the strut and the perch extends above the tire. This means that taller tires like a 275/35 or potentially even 265/35-19s would contact the front OE perch. I don't have an inner clearance photo handy at the moment to explain this more easily but taller tires would be an issue. These limitations mean that these wheels would not work with any coilover or HAS kits that reduce inner clearance up front like ST/KW or conical Bilstiens. My tire recommendation would probably be 265/30-19 for front clearances but really wide tire models in this size might still rub on the inner edge. Front spacers would improve strut clearances at the cost of potential rubbing/poke on the outside edge. Overall the front is doable but difficult. Additional negative camber would help tuck the top of the tire in a bit if spacers were used. Rear The offset is too low for the rear. This wheel pokes out more than we would like with the factory alignment. We would like to test these wheels on a lowered car or a car with additional negative camber dialed in on the rear to see if lowering provides enough camber to help tuck the rear wheel into the fenders. Slightly narrower 265/30-19 tires would help tuck the fitment a bit more as well and allow you to rotate between the front and rear axles, but this rear fitment is really the sticking point at the moment. Inner clearances are good in the rear with plenty of room for higher offset wheel options that we are working on. I believe the customer went on a slow drive around the block with this wheel mounted (need to confirm that with my colleague tomorrow, don't quote me here) and did not experience rubbing, but this isn't the full range of testing a fitment like this needs. This setup may very well rub in the rear with enough suspension compression. We have another identical supra wheel with a 265/30-19 tire ready for a new test fitment, but this is the reason why we are looking for a lowered car on otherwise factory suspension or a car that has had the rear camber increased for more testing. I want the 19x9.5 ET25 Supra wheel to be a direct fit, don't get me wrong. But the rear offset isn't ideal and I can't currently recommend picking up a set unless you understand the risks and are willing to make the wheels work. I certainly think they could work on a G2X car with the right modifications, but we need to know what modifications are needed before we sell the wheels to customers so we can let them know what they are getting into. I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have more questions! -Tom

Wow thank you for comnplete response, I was not expecting this much detail and troughout explanation. I have to admit the rear poke would be too much for me, after seeing the pictures, even with a slimmer tire I am not sure. Its a shame the fit isnt better, I guess the ideal wheels would be a 19x9 with an offset in the 27 range.

In wintertime the sand/grit roads in Sweden. Before the sweeps the roads its seems that the bigger grits touches tire and plastic and makes some noise. but no marks on tire or plastic. its possible to cut away the plastic. But I dont want to do that. other wise no problem with rubbing. |

Hi Apex, I just joined this board to write this message! I am really looking forward to the wheels you are developing for the G20 and plan to purchase for my M340 whenever they are available. I also agree with others that I would ideally like the front to be 19x9, and it seems that on your website, the VS-5RS will already be coming this June with the correct bolt pattern in 19x10 and 19x11. All you have to do is add 19x9 and I will buy those wheels.
It might make more sense to develop a more cost effective flow form wheel and I think the designs of the EC-7 and ARC-8 would look best on a BMW. I don't love the design of the SM-10. |
