Is this purely on adaptive suspension models? and does the M340i suffer from the same problem?

Maybe I should consider a new 4 series instead??
No mate, I hear it on hot days in my M440i. I'm going to see how it goes over the next few weeks and then take it in to them

BMW must be getting a large number of people going in now with this same issue. If we look at the number of people on here plus the 3 cars all in my dealership with the same issue as an example…

I’ve a feeling there’s many more people with this issue that just haven’t heard it yet. It can’t be heard with the radio on for example. Another guy at my work only noticed his does it once I asked if he had the same issue.

BMW UK have now advised my dealership to change the tie rod ends.

Hopefully this will solves the noise once…

My 330e has just started with a faint clunk that sounds like it’s coming from the front left passenger side. Only happens when the cars warm, slowing to a stop and feathering the brake.

Also get a slightly louder clunk when I come to a stop.

Cars been in the garage this morning and they’ve found the Brake Reaction Bush is worn and needs replacing.

Not too sure if this is similar to your issue but could be worth a shout.

Stay safe guys.

Had same problem with my 330e dealer called in regional tech guy who retuned one of the gearboxes vis software and its fine now.

I’d be surprised if the noise I get is gearbox related. It’s definitely the front left so not in the same area of the car as the gearbox. Also clunks regardless of coasting in neutral, in gear or with engine in off mode.

There’s a few people on the FB G20 page, including me, who have all had the same part changed. Noise comes back again once the ambient temperature rises or the car has had a long trip and the engine bay is warm.

Mines currently on week three at the dealership without a fix.
Well ya had to say it!

Knocking noises are back yet again. This is seriously taking too much of my time dealing with it. FIX THIS BMW!

Maybe we should start a poll with who has this issue and get a total number to BMW. Thoughts?

I’ve collected my car again today after the dealership having it for around a month.

Long drawn out process but they have now changed the track rods and track rod ends.

I’ve only covered under 10miles since collecting but the noise has currently gone. I’ve done ALOT of looking into the problem and I’m fairly confident this was the problem part. Makes sense due to the rubber elements and the heat related changes in noise.

The guys at my dealership have been great and had a lot of engagement with BMW UK technical. They are apparently aware of an increasing number of cars with this issue (not just g20’s).

I’ll keep an eye on it over the next week but have heard a few other people have had the same part changed and the noise is gone.

I’m sure there’s alot more cars with this issue but people just haven’t heard it yet due to radio/music on - once you hear it you can’t ignore it though.

Another knocking noise here too. Front near side over small bumps at slow speed. It’s good to know I’m not the only one. Noticed it particularly the other other day crawling along in traffic on a motorway bridge, over all the expansion strips.

How is it going so far? Has the repair fixed the rattling issue for good?

So far no noise - had some warmish weather this weekend where I live (22.5 degrees) and normally this would have made the noise without doubt. Didn't hear anything - so hopeful it has cured the issue. Ive done around 100miles now with no issues...

Another guy on YouTube had the same issue and this fix has sorted his noise also so fairly confident it is the tie rods that were at fault.

Time will tell I guess but so far so good.

Any chance you can send a screenshot of the repair order? to identify exactly what was repaired?

Yeah, my car is in at the end of the month for front end suspension noise. I'm not sure its a knock exactly - I'm pretty sure it's one of the bushes on the control arm but I'll see what they say.

I got mine 330i last September 2021. I am having the same problem on the front left wheel side knocking sound. I sent it 3 to 4 times and they changed absorber, absorber mounting and even the steering rack. The irritating noise is back. the technician told me this issue is hard to solve as the 330 absorber is a bit hard so it cause the noise. Apparently i dunno how to deal with this anymore.

Greetings from Malaysia. I own a 330i, model year 2020. My car is also suffering from the same issue. Is there any known solution to this issue?

Left rear persistent rattle/knocking

Hi,

My M340i is having these kind of knocking/rattling sounds as well. Seems to come from rear left and is most noticeable at low speed over uneven but not rough roads. It's a low frequency sound so I feel it as well as hear it, really annoying.

It's been in to the dealer - 1st attempt was to replace the top mounts - no effect. 2nd was to replace a strut and that seems to have made it slightly better but it's still there. How have the replacement tie rods / track rods been?

This solved it for me but if you’ve got the noise from the rear it won’t be the tie rods as these are only present in the steering set up.

Very left field…I had an awful knocking noise on my F34 and I was convinced it was the right rear rear suspension….after much investigation it turned out to be the sunroof. Only identified when the dealer filled the car with bmw technicians and went for a test drive.
