Pretty much the same reason why I'll be looking at an M550i and not an M5 when the lease is up on my M340i.

The trans on the E60 was easy to live with but, AWD in the F90 is a totally different animal. It was modded and had a BM3 tune that made it a monster.

The built trans doesn't change everyday characteristics at all. It was a full SSR trans kit installation - the 900 hp build with beefed up everything.

Tune
For most of the reasons stated, I am running a Race Chip until the new BM3 tune is available.

There are plenty of guys making crazy power on the m340i with little to no work.
There is a gentleman in the New York area on E50, Downpipe, Tune running 60-130s in the 8s, and trapping around 125 running high 10's. That's like 2k in mods The b58 is a strong platform, it's the reason I got the car. Once the ECU is cracked, I will look into getting tuned, but stoplight to stoplight, an XDrive m340i with DP, e50, tune is going to be very hard to beat. On the highway, of course there will be higher horsepower cars with not much traction issues that will dust a m340i but you'll still be able to surprise a few! |

Nice I'll check him out. 700-750 seems to be the torque limit for the stock trans it seems. I'd be fine capping that and seeing how far a hybrid or full frame can push the power

Thanks for this thread OP! I'm north of you in Wisconsin, currently have a 2019 RS3 with FBO Stage 2, and I love it...was thinking of going hybrid turbo but depending on what you read/believe don't want to build the engine.
Looking at M340i xDrive vs M3C xDrive as next car largely since it seems 700-800hp can be achieved on stock block. Not so sure about ZF8-auto trans mods necessary however...and having to add port injection? Seems like Pure 800 plus intake, GESI catted DP, charge pipe, and tune are all that's needed to get into the 700 - 800 hp range. I have e85 available to me locally too, which is awesome. I feel the same as you, while it would be nice to achieve the same power levels or more with just a tune/e85 on S58 M3, not sure it's worth the extra $$$. It's a nice problem to have though, I suppose can't go wrong either way. However with inflation/supply issues I'm sure prices of new/used cars will only continue to rise. Sorta leaning M340i xDrive at this point, but the older I get the less I want to mod too... |

^^^Thanks for sharing!
I'm looking for what I consider the sweet spot, mods-wise. The most power I can safely achieve before having to build engine or transmission. Thinking hybrid turbo, likely Pure 800, DP, intake, charge pipe, injectors/plugs/additional HPFP?, E85 sensor...thankfully E85 is easily found at local gas stations where I live. |

^^^Thank you for your analysis, very helpful.
S58 with bolt-ons & E85 will be faster & more reliable? Does current M3/4 xDrive have a more robust ZF8 speed auto transmission? Or do owners have to think about upgrading transmission parts at even Stage 2 power levels? Maybe spending extra 20K for M3C w/AWD buys more peace of mind in some regards...? Sorry to be wishy washy, I keep going back & forth... |

G80 M3 owners are running 10's just with downpipe and JB4. So those cars are already faster. And yes they use the ZF8HP90 which can hold a lot more power than our ZF8HP50. Also, I don't think an extra $20k will get you an M3C AWD, realistically closer to $50k more.

I see. Thanks again.
I keep pricing out a M340i xDrive at around 62K with moderate options. M3C xDrive is 82K with minimal options, only option I really want are carbon fiber seats. So...tune & DP, not bad. The older I get the less I want to hassle with mods... And there is some peace of mind doing less to the car, IMO, or maybe I'm just getting old! |

10.8 is solid for 2 mods! I assume it's an x drive from that 60 ft.
