Should AC ever be turned off?

In my m340i, there is something I have never experienced in a car. That is how the AC never turns off and the only way to turn it off is by going into the menus instead of just a single button like on other cars.

Is this intentional? Should the compressor be activated year round? Will turning the AC off during winter months affect the compressor function?

The compressor turns off in temperatures below freezing (or thereabout).
In temperatures where cooling is not needed it can anyway be useful to reduce humidity. In my earlier cars there have been specific instructions to turn A/C compressor ON at least a few minutes every month (for lubrication or something).
I will leave it on Auto ...

So you think its better not to turn it off all together? Meaning, the "A/C" will always be visible on the screen right?

If you have recirculated cabin air function on this seems to run the AC all the time, so try to change that to fresh air. Or just say Hey BMW, AC off. No digging through menus.

In every car I've ever owned that has automatic climate control, the A/C says shows on when in "Auto" mode. I think this is normal behavior, and I've never had an issue as a result.

You can turn the A/C off without going into the menu. Keep the fan speed down (the button right in the middle of the A/C button panel that controls the fan speed) button pressed for a couple of seconds. It'll turn the A/C completely off.

There is an OFF button that turns the Aircon off...it's the dual function Fan Speed/Off button...hold it down for a second or so and it turns the Aircon right off.
I live in a temperate country and have a white car...so when I don't need Aircon to cool or heat I turn it off. Have had BMWs for over 20 years and with climate control air in most of them and turned it off or on when needed and have never had a compressor or Aircon problem

So i tries that and it just turns everything off, both the AC and air from outside.

Is there a way to turn off just the compressor but keep air on?
