Considering m340i xdrive. Issues?
Any known issues for a 2022 m340i that I should be aware of before I dive into this?
Possibly may get a preowned 2020 or 2021 if no serious known issues or recalls as well. I'm impressed with the specs for that price point. 0-60 seems mind blowing.

There is a recall on the '21 M340i for a coolant pump issue. I had to take my M340i in for the same issue before the recall was started.
Beyond that, it's a rock solid car. |

BMW replaced the whole turbo but I track the car and maybe missed one or two cool down laps on a very very hot day..
Took some time because parts were back-ordered and had to drive the car around in limp mode with around 160hp for a month and half but I don't want to complain as I have exemplary service from my dealer. I know this issue can sound major and to speak the truth it is but realize I pounded this car like all hell broke loose on track and everything else took it. Next season I will have bigger stickier tires, camber plates and I now have an AA downpipe so around 400hp. If there is a weak link, I will find it

I have a 2021. Zero issues for 10K miles (knock on wood). It's been a pure delight. I love the acceleration and the 30 mpg I am getting. If I had to nitpick, the only complaint I have is the seats could be a little more comfortable on longer drives. But overall, you can't beat it as a daily driver.

Had an error code pop up a couple of weeks ago;
"Rear axle differential lock restricted. Drive moderately. Have the problem checked by the nearest Service Partner" Took the car in to BMW and upon diagnosis they said the Control Unit for the limited slip diff needed replacement. No cause or reason provided but they replaced it under warranty. |

Is there a fix for the sunroof rattle? I'm around 4k miles and I think this just started to develop.

I should have worded my question differently. Is there a link or any sort of info available for this recall? Just curious to know what the recall is all about.

Nah, I understood what you meant. I just think it's not a recall so to speak because I've seen nothing written about it anywhere. IIRC, madpistol also had an issue with his drivetrain? I know there have been no reports of that being a common issue either, and certainly not a recall. Seems to me he's hit a streak of bad luck.

Drove both a 330xi and the m340xi today.
Both quite amazing really but the 340 takes the cake as expected. I want to order one but decided on the m440xi Grand Coupe instead for only $600 more and a slight hit on acceleration. Problem is, they don't provide touchscreen now. That really sucks. As much as I love the iDrive dial I think the TS makes so much sense on this generation. The screen sits at arms reach.

I always joke how if that b58 and transmission made its way into the Supra and Toyota out their name on it, would make me feel really good about the m340 hahaha

Thanks all no ended up getting one in December.
Only complain I have is that I feel an odd vibration on the floor at around 2300rpm in all gears. I don't know if it's normal but I am fairly sure I test drove 2 other m340i before buying this one and I don't recall feeling any of that. I have new tires now and still same thing. Otherwise seems like a great car.

The reason why I ask is (and this might be totally unrelated) because I got a new Remus exhaust fitted and it seems like the place I got it from didn't fit it properly because at around 1900-2200 rpm, I hear a rattle under the centre console. Similar to a vibration, it sounds like there is not enough clearance between the exhaust and the heat shield and this causes them to hit each other. So maybe what happened is the previous owner had a difference exhaust on the car and got the original refitted and it wasn't fitting properly? So the exhaust is hitting the heat shield. Like I said, might be completely wrong but just from my experience. |
