I'm going to do the same. I was considering going the M3 route after lease but I came to my senses that it's overkill since I don't go to the track. The 340 has more than enough power at this time and I can add a little more if I decide to do so. I also am not 100% in love with the M3 looks and it will bother me spending that much for something I can't get over. I may go used F80 in addition to the 340 if I ever do a track build.

That's actually good, nothing unfortunate there since by then deals on M cars should be aplenty. I am hoping the G87 doesn't disappoint so I can get one in the future, G80 no longer on my radar.

Stick with the M340. I really don't see the appeal of the Genesis. It's a solid effort but also just feels like a car that ticked all the sport sedan boxes. Exterior is whatever in my opinion and the interior is very generic Asian car.

I'm a big fan of the Genesis G70 redesign. I test drove both engine choices and enjoyed them very much. Loved the interior with the quilted leather; the basic seats are kind of bland. I think a test drive in the G70 3.3T may change your thinking...especially if you live near a high-volume Genesis dealer. Your payment could/should be much lower if you decide to buy the M340 though. Things will get very interesting if Genesis is able to produce a coupe or sedan anywhere near the look of their New York concept car. I like the look they're going for.... |

It’s sort of a combination of not wanting to spend money to improve a car I’m renting and not having any free time. As I get closer to lease end, and I’m 100% sure I’m buying it out, I’ll do the deed. I see where you’re coming from though, tint makes all the difference for aesthetics, protecting the leather, regulating cabin temps during summer, protecting your identity from busters wanting to scope you and your family. |

My lease ends in October, which means right around June/July timeframe I'll begin the shopping around process.
I'm considering a G80 6MT. Based on the current market I'd more or less be doubling my payment ($667 on my loaded M340i to about $1,200 on a relatively lightly optioned G80 base). So I'm REALLY hoping the market settles down by this summer. BMW YOY Q4 numbers showed a decline in sales... so I'm sort of hoping that signals a trend in slowing demand.

Well can't really look at the G80 in a vacuum right? While the G80 may be $1,200 plus... a loaded m340i right now would easily be in the $800-$900 range. So from that angle I'd say it's worth it. Plus I'm excited about getting a 6MT.
But that's also why I'm not rushing to sell my lease and get into a G80 until late summer at the earliest. Worst case I can continue extending my lease beyond October while I wait things out to settle down. Ideally I can get the G80 lease for at or below $1k/month. Another issue... my G05 lease is also ending in October and my wife is convinced we need a G07. It's going to be an expensive year....

I think they will. Supply and demand dictate everything. And those are fluctuating variables. Once the supply and demand issues stabilize, for every manufacturer that refuses to offer pricing relief, there'll be another manufacturer willing to take their market share. It's a cyclical thing. In a normal economy, us as consumers have the upper hand in the form of competition not only between manufacturers vying for market share, but also between dealers.

Prices will revert; we just don't know how soon. BMW CEO also said he plans to hire many more people this year. It's not just a chip shortage that's affecting the supply chain, it's also human labor. I know because this is my speciality and there is a shortage of labor worldwide. Many people have quit their jobs during the pandemic and or were laid off and some of them haven't returned to work.
As far as cars go, my lease ends August and if things don't improve I may have to buy it out and wait 2 years and hop into a G87 or facelift G80. There's not much out there that interests me. The current G80 market price is above my budget and there's aspects of it I haven't warmed up to yet. Then there's the G87 which we are still waiting for final data on which won't we available in time anyway. The only other car that's worth a look is the IS500 but it's just not a compelling product outside of the engine.

- G80 could have been perfect but BMW tried their hardest to tarnish that with questionable looks. - G87 could be perfect but the rear seats have shrunk compared to the F87, which might be a problem for people who need semi-usable rear seats. Also my issue with the 2 series has been interior quality. It's based on the "budget" model in BMW's lineup and the interior quality just doesn't hold up as well as the 3 series. - IS500 - you said it... other than the engine (and IMO the looks... I think it's absolutely gorgeous), it doesn't have much going for it. - C53/63 - Mercedes killed any desire in my body for the upcoming C class by announcing that they'd be using 4 bangers. I don't care how brilliant it is... I psychologically can not pay $80-$90k for a 4 banger luxury sports sedan. - S5/RS5 - My personal opinion... I found the driving dynamics to be a bit boring. Gorgeous car, but it just didn't excite me when I drove it. - CT4V BW - It's been getting amazing reviews, but I'm having a huge problem getting past the low-rent interior. GM parts bin galore.

We think alike in this regard, IS500 does look nice. I have been watching CL fanboys posting about their deliveries and it sure is one slick machine. I need a test drive lol, also looking forward to yours since you've test driven most of what is available lol. Domestic cars never do much for me lol, perhaps it's because I am an immigrant unlike people who are natives and grew up with the big 3.
