Would also like to know if this steering wheel can be considered a direct replacement for a M340i.

I don't see why the steering wheel wouldn't physically fit a G20... I don't know if the M1 and M2 buttons are going to work without a new module and/or a complete reflash though.

You also might have an issue if you have a heated wheel or the other traffic assistance gadgets.

According to BMW web site, it won't work. Have you looked at this:

That's the first time I've seen the open pore carbon on a G80 set up so i can only assume it's an optional extra.
As far as i know the M buttons can be made to scroll through driving modes other than that this wheel is identical to what can already be had.

I presume you lost your ability to utilize your heated steering wheel function correct?

I'm in sunny Singapore, buddy.. Where the mercury very seldom goes below 30 degrees Celsius. If there's ever a place on earth where you will never need a heated steering wheel, this would be it

Lol, understood but I was asking for my own reference as I reside in a location where the temperature as the ability to exceed 0 degrees Celsius and I would prefer to keep my hands nice and toasty 😀

Do we have any success stories (with pics) of someone retrofitting the G80/82 (M3/4) M Performance Steering (Part No. 32-30-2-462-910) on their G20 M340i ?

On preliminary inquiry I've been informed that the M3/4 Airbag unit has a different part no. (hence may be slightly different from the G20's ?)

This has not made me confident to order this part yet hence would be great if someone on the forum can share their experience.

Installed today. I didn’t want the M buttons (kit didn’t come with anyway). Just needed to transfer the top cover from the stock wheel over since this wheel assumes you would have those buttons.

Thanks PARTS@STBMW for assisting me with all of my questions.

Looks great! Just wish the heating function wasn't lost 😞 with the swap.

Thank you. There were two videos I used to help me with the install.

If you search G20 steering wheel removal on YouTube. I watched the paddle shifter extension video by Kies Motorsports. And also the G20 M Performance Wheel installation video by IND distribution.

I didn’t have the heating function so worked out perfect 😁

Isn't so nice to be able to search the web and locate videos which make our lives that much easier when equipment removal/installation is required!

One of these days I might just thrown in the towel and install an upgraded steering wheel - the M Performance version is soooo much better than stock!

Was the wiring harness easy to remove and reinstall? Any tips or tricks?

So before front trim can come off, there are two black torx screws that actually go through the back of the wheel into the two separate steering wheel control panels. Disconnect the spring plate for the airbag completely away from the wiring harness. The harness itself just pay attention to how all of the cables are dressed and ran before removing.

The harness sits in this plastic flexible holder that fits in the mold inside the steering wheel. You’ll have to pull pretty hard around the bottom arch to get it loose. Once you get it out though I would directly put it into the new wheel. Also make note that the wiring at the top of the wheel sits behind the top cover. You’ll see what I mean when you take it all apart.

I think pulling everything off and then moving into the new wheel took around 45 mins.

When putting the airbag back, push it down with the weight distributed evenly making sure the top corners actually engage. If one side doesn’t engage, you have to pop the airbag completely off. I couldn’t get it to click in if the other side was locked already. Be absolutely sure that you get both sides locked at the same time.

P.S. When removing the airbag, the left side was way easier to get the angle and pop out the airbag compared to the right.

Also forgot to mention, the two screws that hold the front trim and controls in are covered by the paddles. You’ll have to remove the paddles first to access the screws behind it to remove the front trim.

<mainly used to understand the angle necessary to pop out the airbag
