Extended Warranty
Just a bit of info regarding the BMW Extended Warranty.
Just got my code through to extend my warranty and a lot of people will now start to receive these are the cars are getting to 3 yrs old, mine was one of the early press cars. Just so you know, I'll put the quotes and excess down for my 330i to give you all a bit of an idea as to what you can expect to pay. Comprehensive Cover Comprehensive: our highest level of protection, covering the majority of your BMW's components. Includes wear and tear for covered components for the first 100,000 miles £0.0 Excess - £707 one of payment per annum or £76 per month £100 Excess - £522 per one of payment per annum or £57 per month £250 Excess - £422 one of payment per annum or £48 per month Named Component Named Component: mechanical and electrical breakdown cover for a wide range of your vehicle's components, available on vehicles with up to 100,000 miles £0.0 Excess - £596 one of payment per annum or £65 per month £100 Excess - £466 per one of payment per annum or £52 per month £250 Excess - £385 one of payment per annum or £44 per month Driveline Warranty DriveLine: the basic level of warranty, covering the main engine, transmission and drive-train components, with a claim limit of up to £5,000 £0.0 Excess - £488 one of payment per annum or £54 per month £100 Excess - £397 per one of payment per annum or £46 per month £250 Excess - £341 one of payment per annum or £40 per month All the above include Roadside Assistance. If you want none of the above then you have the following options for Roadside Assistance. Roadside Assistance £156 per year Roadside Assistance Essential £69 per year No monthly options on those. They are certainly hammering us with the interest payments so I opted for the one off fee.

Thanks. From my (limited) experience of owning cars after the warranty has expired, I'd strongly recommend going for comprehensive.
I had a dash pod die on a car that was only weeks out of warranty and even after negotiating a contribution from the manufacturer (Audi as it happens but I think the principle still applies) it cost me the thick end of £2k. |

My car will be coming up to three years in April so many thanks for posting. Its quite an eye opener for me given that my previous car was a Kia and never had to consider this additional cost - I suppose it all depends on attitude to risk. if you don't mind me asking which one did you opt for? Appreciate mines is a Diesel but I think if my quotes come back similar to yours I'd probably plump for the comprehensive with one of the excesses

Out of interest did you consider 3rd party extended warranties ie Warranty Direct, Warrantywise?
When my X5 got to 3 years I took out cover with one of these and it was considerably cheaper even including the option for using main dealer rather than independent garage. |

Comment noted 👍
I did a lot of checking and research on other websites last time and will again when my G21 manufacturers warranty runs out later this year. At this point in time I’m open minded as to what route I’ll take. |

Thanks for the post, I was only thinking about this yesterday as mine is also one of the early models and out of warranty in a couple of months.
I will definitely be taking the warranty with BMW as I have had quite a few problems with mine. They will invite you in for a end of warranty check so make sure you point anything out that needs doing as it's costs the dealer nothing and is claimed back from BMW so check paint corrosion, alloy corrosion etc. I had 2 alloy wheels replaced on my previous 5 series end of warranty check no questions asked due to corrosion. I hope the warranty will cover defects with the laser lights and its something I will be asking them. I have already had one replaced and was told if I had to pay it would of cost me around £1800!

Warranty Options
I had no problems at all with WarrantyWise, two claims paid out, heated seat repair, and window actuator on previous car. Then when I traded in for 330d M sport Touring they refunded 2 years of the remaining 3 year warranty, even though their own T&C’s state the policy has no transfer value when sold to a trader, only for private sale.

There are plenty who will not take the warranty out and put money aside and it might even be the case where there's never a warranty issue whilst I own the car, but, you pays your money you takes your choice. Over the last 12 years, it's been a godsend and there's a lot to say about 'trouble free' motoring. Quote:
Also, I have never had a claim questioned or refused with BMW.

They should cover the laser lights as as far as I'm aware they aren't serviceable, had headlights replaced under warranty on my 1 series due to condensation. Car is booked in on the 26th for End of warranty check, service, MOT and recall for wheel liner or something.

That's the risk. We paid it for four years with no claims on OH's car, and nearly ditched it for year 5, thinking "that's 2 and a half grand down the drain". Glad we didn't, as year 5 it paid for itself about twice over!

I have always maintained the OEM Warranty after getting nearly badly hit when the auto gearbox failed on my E53 at 38k miles and 6 months out of warranty. The supplying dealer had gone bust and I never had an offer from BMW. BMW declined even good will. That particular gearbox was known to be a major issue on many brands using it at the time. So I bought one from Warranty Direct and they covered all but £75 of the £4,000 repair bill. BMW quoted more than £7k (new box only, no repair offered).
Warranty Direct were good value until we had an issue with a fuel pump relay. The part was £10 (they paid), but finding the fault cost £300 and I had to pay all ‘investigation costs’. I also found that as the car aged so less an less was covered and with things in the ICE and electronics being the least reliable the repair costs were going to mount. With the E71 I still have the BMW Comprehensive cover, same with the F46. In the longer term it’s cheaper to pay monthly as the premium doesn’t change every year. It isn’t cheap but I know the rear diff in the X6 is VERY expensive to replace, and repairing it needs a specialist. In my case it’s peace of mind. |

Are you saying that once you commence the extended warranty and elect to pay monthly then it just carries on ad infinitum unless you cancel it so that any annual renewal premiums that may go up year on year don't apply and you still continue to pay the same monthly amount year on year? |

I do however always go with the comprehensive policy option the others don't cover enough for me personally. |

With you on that one coming up to 40 years of BMW ownership this June and they are so expensive to fix these days I always go for extended warranty now and have done for a good number of past years. Mine's only 7 months old so a way to go yet and my wife's 220i is only 22 months old so her's will be the first to get warranty but still another year off yet. |

(And yes I have paid for that long, but I have only 53k on it and I prefer the original E71 over the follow on versions) |

As a new owner of a 2 year old 330e, I asked this question when I picked the car up and was told they would contact me on the 3rd anniversary of initial delivery. Will definitely be taking up the comprehensive no excess option. So thanks for the update on the prices.
