rubber seal protection
hi guys,
what do you use to clean and protect your rubber seals? do you use Gummi pflege, if so how frequently do you apply it on the seals. |

Always used Gummi Pflege. I apply it once a year just before the winter (helps with the seals from sticking on very cold days).

my car has been rattling intermittently for a while now. was at my wit's end trying to find out the cause. the dealers couldn't reproduce the rattle and couldn't help. I think the issue is the seals. so will try Gummi pflege and pray that the rattles are history.

My trunk would stick close at the seals. Had a SA tell me to skip the Gummi Pflege and use a small amount of WD-40 instead.

WD-40 is terrible for seals. It will eventually dry out the rubber and it'll start to crack. It's a quick fix for a bigger future problem.

thoughts on chemical Guys VRP? Am getting impatient waiting for delivery of Gummi, and delivery times are extremely slow here in Australia due to covid impacts. so considering Chem guys VRP as an interim treatment for the seals.. what do you think?

Have you checked on the reviews for Chemical Guys VRP? After doing a quick Google search it appears to be pretty popular. I have personally never used it but use their carwash stuff which I like but the company itself is pretty reputable I think. |

I understand what you mean about not finding reviews specifically for protecting seals. To be safe I would contact Chemical Guys directly and just ask. You might get a quick response? It's still just 3:18pm their time in Cali. https://www.chemicalguys.com/sfcc-contact-us.html |

so awaiting reply from chemical Guys. any way, I got impatient and applied VRP on Saturday morning. it's definitely helped. since then, the rattle has greatly reduced. only occurs when I drive over bumpy road. previously, it used to be a constant rattle (albeit intermittently). still early days, will have to watch for at least two weeks before calling it! i have now received my Gummi shipment, will apply some Gummi soon and see what effect it has.
how often do you apply Gummi on your rubber seals? |

the rattle stops when I press the child tether. the tether is ok. the dealer put some felt around the tether and additional foam under the shelf, but the rattle continues. when I open the Sun roof, I can't hear the rattle, but I always assumed that the wind noise cancels it out. will check again. this rattle is very wierd. never happens when I drive a cool car in the morning. mostly starts immediately after I take the car out of the garage in the evening. my theory is that the garage gets hot through the day, and car becomes warm and something triggers off the rattle. starts mild, then gets louder, then after about 15 minutes goes off again. after that I can hear it only when going over bumps. the dealers have not been able to reproduce the issue |

I had a bad sunroof rattle, worse when cold. Every time I heard it it made be want to sell the car or drive it into a tree. Anyway the dealer applied Lubricant M and haven't heard a rattle since.
