Stock exhaust piping size? Anyone done a custom set up?

I'm at a crossroad on what to do with the exhaust on my 2020 M340i. The pricing of cat-backs for these are absurd. I was between the MPE and Dinan. Both of those are over 3k CAD. AWE has nice stuff but even the cheapest one being the "track" is $2500 for pipe and 2 bullet resonators. I'm tempted to remove the stock muffler and add 2 vibrant resonators to make my own track type system to see if I like it since I've heard it may drone. Anyone know if the stock piping is 2.5" or 3? Thanks!

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Theres no reason these axle backs should cost $2000 lol. And stock exhaust is 2.5"

any exhaust on this platform is simply for aesthetics and sound - there is no power to be had. The stock system is highly effective considering it is straight piped from the down pipe to the muffler from the factory. So yes I see no reason to not play around with some resonators to try to achieve the sound that you are after. Made all that much easier if you plan on keeping the stock exhaust finishers in that you won't have to worry about trying to make new tips work

Anxious to see what you come up with good luck and good idea IMHO

hey, I actually have a custom exhaust on mine with vibrant ultra quiets in place of the muffler with a cts catted downpipe. personally, it sounds dope on WOT but the lower end and pops sound quite muted and it didn't help much with drone. my shop had no issue installing 3" piping whatsoever.
