Having driven the C43 - it was underwhelming.
Gearbox was disappointing and overall, the experience underwhelming. Boring to drive. In Australia, you can have an RS3 Sedan or hatch for C43 money - that would be my pic any day of the week. |

I didn't think there was any bias, if anything they would have been more bias towards the BMW as one of the hosts owns a ton of E46's and is a BMW enthusiast. Everyone needs to remember at the end of the day its an individual opinion, each of those cars are great in their own ways and would be fun to own.

Having drivin a c43 many times (my friend has one) it's definitely underwhelming.
Exhaust note in the C43 makes me feel like I'm driving a WRX with a cheap exhaust, transmission tuning on the ZF8 is way better than the 9 speed, it does handle better than my f30, I have MPPSK and I can steadily pull on the c43 at any rev range and from a full stop (it's not even a race) I wouldn't give much weight to the review.

I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet that the host who owns multiple e46 cars would tell you that of the modern bmw line up, he likes the m2, but isn't fond of anything else. |

It was a pretty fair review and entertaining in the process. Obviously depending on the factors that are most important to each buyer any of the 3 could make sense. If all you care about is their final recommendation you're missing lots of other points they bring up during the review.

With that being said, my buddy just got a C43 Coupe and finds the steering quick but boring, so I don't know what these guys are smoking.

The 340 is immensely capable. You can tell it's easy as hell to drive at high speeds and will put up excellent track times. It's not crap like the early F30s were, not even close.
With that being said, it still left me feeling cold. It was very teutonic and drove like every Audi I've experienced. It is a really good car with excellent build quality, but it's no return to how "fun" the older 3-series were.

I actually thought the review was fair. They seemed to like different aspects of each car, but in the end they enjoyed the aggressive sound and shifts in the c43. From the review, if I want an aggressive car, and like the amg line up, but don't want to ante up for the c63 amg, I'd look closely at the c43. If I want a fast and sporty daily driver that's also well balanced and does everything well, I'd look at the bmw. If I enjoy being perpetually bored and generally hating life, I'd get the Audi (just joking....partially).
I think the c43 is more polarizing, in that it is designed to accentuate sporting characteristics that will appeal to those who like aggressive cars, and will feel rough and less refined to those who want a comfortable luxury car. As others have stated, Mercedes seems to be designing the c43 amg to truly be an "amg-light" type of car. As much as people complain about bmw diluting the M brand, I think there is a bigger gap between the M-performance cars and actual M cars, than between a Mercedes c43 and c63 amg. Despite the M badging, the M performance cars like the M340i are intended to have more in common with the 330i than the m3. This is also represented by the different chassis codes, g20 for the 3 series, and g80 for the upcoming m3. Bmw wants us to think of the 3 series and m3 as being built on a different chassis. This is true to an extent. While the m3 chassis is fundamentally based on the 3er chassis, there are enough major differences to warrant a new chassis code. The way I see it, in a nutshell, is the m340i is a more powerful 3 series that comes standard with more performance options. The c43 is more akin in character to a less powerful c63 amg, not merely a more powerful c-class. The c400 (or whatever designation Mercedes uses) is the more powerful c class. |
