For example: Alfa Romeo or Jaguar: History of questionable reliability Lexus: Questionable performance acumen Genesis: Associated with Hyundai/Kia who have a history of poor quality BMW: Long history of glitchy, unreliable electronics I'm sure there are others I don't mention, and perhaps some of the manufacturers on that list could be argued to have other shortcomings as well. In the case of Tesla, I see (very justified) complaints about build quality and spartan interior. But, in the same way that we cannot reasonably remove every manufacturer from the list of luxury carmakers because they do not build a vehicle that excels in every way, so too has the automotive community correctly concluded it would not make sense to do that with Tesla either. At any rate, regardless of how one personally feels, it is clear to me that BMW and its traditional competitors consider Tesla no less a threat to their businesses than they do each other. Contrast that with a Chrysler or Subaru who likely occupy very little time on BMW brass's list of automakers to be concerned about. |

Back on topic, so am I correctly seeing that this car will have M4 (or M4-esque, I suppose, since there's no four door M4) quarter panels but normal 4 Series front fenders (and face)?

sold the M3 and buying an Audi. Perhaps I will return one day but that won't appear to be the case for 5-7 years from now.

I think the whine of the electric motors when pushed hard sounds cool. Look up formula e or the vw id r. Now if you take the vw r sound and make it a little deeper, it could sound really good in a daily driver. With a switch/ I drive menu option to turn it off though. Cause the quiet cabin of an ev is really nice sometimes. (We own a Leaf plus) |

As a public service, look somewhere else. Bought and had to dump a $60k+ 2016 A6 3.0T Prestige in about two years after random electrical problems, unfixable trans problems ("they all do that and yes, others complain too"), early brake disc failure denied for warranty. Final straw was tech telling us he was told to alter repair order to support denying warranty and blaming "pad transfer". Dishonorable and cannot be trusted on top of poor quality. NEVER AGAIN! Suggest looking anywhere else. Good luck.

i hope you are being sarcastic. You had to say 4 cylinder bc you know a well equiped 3 series is on par with the Model S that costs double the price. Thats SAD. But Tesla owners seem to think the size of the screen dictates how luxurious it is.

I'm referring to the design decision. It looks like it's ICE brethren will, which seems odd to me, but who knows. Thanks for the engineering update though.

I am very much looking forward for BMW, a brand synonymous with performance, to finally offer just that, performance that can smoke Tesla.
If you ask me, right now getting an M car almost defeats the purpose. Sure, you will be the loudest in the street, your car will not look like a soap bar on wheels (Tesla) and if you track your car, which most do not or do it twice a year max, then maybe an M car makes senses. Otherwise your killing machine will get serious spanking by a soccer mom in Tesla sipping golden caramel macchiato with almond organic milk...venti of course. BMW please deliver an M car that can put Tesla in its place without having to learn a multi step launch control which may or may not work, break torque the car, pray you get traction and don't lose precious milliseconds, none of that please. I want a BMW to deliver performance with the same ease Tesla is delivering it now. Think Netflix user friendliness as opposed to long gone Blockbuster. In short, looking forward to the next electric or highly electrified M5. Hope it comes right on time when my new lease is up.

There's literally zero reason to have that giant grill other than brand recognition. I'm willing to bet that there will be a LCI model that will change the grill shape and size on the M3/4 by 2022, if that's the case, I think that the i4m will have a different front altogether. Maybe something cohesive and attractive?

There will be plenty of new buyers to replace those that give up on the 4s this year. In fact, the new 4s, grill and all, could easily sell in far greater numbers than did the slumping coupes did in 2019. |

Interested to see how this car turns out, especially since BMW will be one of the first (if not first) traditional auto manufacturers to put a normal battery-only EV against Tesla
