Adding Android Auto upgrade 4 yrs later

Hi, Just got a '20 G20 330xi with Idrive 7 Version 7/2019.38 . This version does not yet have Android Auto (AA) capability yet. Unfortunately, the original owner never did any OTA upgrades and it's now out of warranty and I don't (yet) have a Connected Drive subscription to access the upgrade. The dealer Genius advised me to get the Connected Drive subscription to do the upgrade. HOWEVER, he couldn't guarantee that I would get the 7/2020 upgrade that added AA compatibility. He didn't know if the upgrades were cumulative, where it would give me every upgrade and feature in between. Anybody have any experience with this or expertise? I'd hate to drop $150 on a years subscription and have this not work.

You don't need to pay for Remote software update. They are free of charge from factory.
