First of all hello , I have an early M340i 69 plate that I am told can be bench unlocked........I know it had a software update in 21 before being sold but would that have hard locked the dme ? Thanks for any help.

You might want to try your question on the main (ie American) forum. DME unlocking seems to be much more of a thing there.

Should be able to be bench unlocked, yes. You can do it at home as well via a tool (MLink). Mine (early 2019 build on '22 software) was unlockable.

bit late to the party, so long as the ecu wasnt made after 06/20 you are good for a bench unlocking, it was a hardware change from what i understand and cant retrospectively be added to older cars via a software update

I know a proper remap is much better than a box but I can recommend racechip. A few of us have gts black and it certainly makes a difference to the b58 power

Well I had my dme unlocked and installed my Bootmod3 Stage1 multimap I had transferred over from my 140i along with a Xhp tune and it's brilliant 👏, it was good before but even better now , very happy.
