I may well have missed the announcement of this sometime ago, but has any one else been informed that as of 31st December, BMW no longer offer an End of Warranty check?

Got an email from a local dealer I've had servicing done at to remind me to book one soon, so I do, and then a few days later get a call to say the appointment has been cancelled as its no longer offered.

Just thought it best to check before I go bleating to BMW UK...

Thanks in advance.

I literally just had one for mine just before Xmas. 3 year anniversary mid Jan. They hunted me down mercilessly!! Constant calls and emails.

I thought this was just something the individual retailers themselves chose to offer, probably as it might identify some work?

My local dealer did an end of warranty check with my wife's 220i back in July but I shall be asking them what the score is next time in there which will be fairly soon as I'm running out of screen wash!

Sounds likely, though the person I spoke to said it was UK wide. I've asked for a copy of some sort of official announcement from BMW UK.

I should call the supplying dealer and ask, but frankly that would be a last resort.

My service provider still offers it combined with a cheap MOT deal

Strange, I had one done in August 2023 and they were very keen to find as many issues, this is how they make money.

But I did not get any end of warranty paperwork form or silly video from a technician

Did you book it late in your warranty end period? It is recommended to be done in a middle of final month, gives enough time for the dealer to get work authorised under warranty.

I even had asked Skoda to do something similar

No, was a bit early if anything. Warranty ends 28th Feb and booked it in just before Xmas for mid Feb. Only booked it in that early because I had an email from them inviting me to. Then middle of this week get a call from them to say it had been cancelled.

They have today agreed to honour the booking, but were keen to stress it was a goodwill gesture and that the check had been discontinued by BMW UK as of end December.

Interesting, BMW clearly do not want to pay for in warranty repairs and sounds like dealers been told not to carry out such checks either.

I wonder of they will also harden on the good will gesture past warranty period.

If it’s an AUC car.. would the end of warranty check be expected at the end of the manufacturers warranty or the AUC one?

I always thought it was something the local dealer offered not BMW UK. The service centre wants to look for warranty work to earn them money.

Spoke to BMW service team, indeed as of December 2023 BMW UK no longer prepared to cover the dealership labour costs to run these inspections. Guess customer can get it done but at its expense!

Suspect its a costs saving decision for BMW UK.

Its a shame its not offered as it was fairly unique to BMW as far as I am aware.

I wonder whether dealers will start offering this at their own expense? After all, the sole purpose of the checks is to make them money.

This is quite annoying as mine is due end of March and want any issues sorting prior to extending warranty

My car will be three years old in March. I recieved an email saying that my MOT would be due soon but no mention of any end-of-warranty check.

Exactly and in this day and age any opportunity to increase business and make more money would surely be sufficient incentive?

I still haven't been to my dealer for some much needed screen wash I have been meaning to get for a couple of weeks now but when I do get round to it I shall be asking them whether or not they are still doing them and if it applies to the entire Stratstone Group or down to individual dealerships!

I am surprised they ever did - I always assumed the dealership did so at their own cost with any work identified paying for it.

BMW used to pay the retailer a nominal fee to do the check. It was BMW who imitated the whole thing and who have no since decided to cancel it. I think they set it up as a customer retention tool and thinking that if a car came in and they found it needed brakes etc as well as a warranty part that the customer would get the additional work done at the same time. From my experience this wasnt very often the case and customer would only want the free warranty work done.

I contacted BMW Customer Services about end of warranty checks, and here's what they said.
