Tyre Setup

Hi all,

Just looking into replacing tyres on my g20 330e and wondering if I have to keep a staggered setup. Currently running 225/45R18 at the front and 255/40R18 on the rears. That's what I got when the car was brand new. Would there be an issue with my just getting the same tyre all round?

BTW it is a lease car and is due to be returned in 6 months so has anyone any experience in lease company's taking notice of this?

Thanks in advance

I'm fairly confident that the rims front and rear are different widths to accommodate the width of the wider rear tyres, so I do don't think you can do that, but I'm sure somebody will chime in and say for sure.

ERTRO is the international standard for tyre widths on a given rim size. Your rear wheels will be 8.5j width and the minimum recommended tyre width is 225mm as per your front tyres.

However, that's not OEM fitment and straying from that may be problematic at end of lease, if checked.

Similarly, if your car was involved in a collision, its the type of thing that might be picked up on by an insurance assessor or vehicle examiner.

I wouldn't do it personally but ERTRO, I mean ETTO

The rear alloys are wider.

A chap that lives in my village did the same with his and the rears looked stretched on the rim.

I'd stick to the recommended sizes.

I'd stick with the current set-up too for all the same reasons as mentioned above.
Bearing in mind also that the ABS, traction control and all the other trick electronics that BMW employ in an effort to keep us on the road and out of the scenery are all programmed for a staggered tyre set-up.
