I think the main reason of the 48V mild hybrid is just to reduce C02 in countries where that maters (around 10g/km less than without) that's why it's fairly low key announcement or not at all...

Happy to report that my 2021 m340i 48v is popping and burbling as much, if not more, than my 2018 340i did.
Note that I usually drive in Sport +. |

I drove a 21 yesterday and had it in sports plus . Virtually no pops and burbles and I drove a 20 and it was intoxicating. Honestly it kind of turned me off to it somewhat but its still a great car that handles well and was comfortable. I just sold my 7 series and starting to get serious about my next BMW. The M5 is on my radar and the G80 also but the controversy with the grill and design is making me have second thoughts.

M440i did 3.8s 0-60 on carwow and driving reviews have commented on how much they notice the 48V supercharger. |

Supercharger? Lol lots of people have been getting 3.8s in the M340i as well. I very much doubt that the 48v mild hybrid does anything more than smooth out the start/stop. An 11 hp "boost" would not change 0 to 60 times or make a noticeable difference other than the seat of the pants placebos effect (in my opinion of course).

Maybe a select few '21s have it until they made the software switch in ~late Aug/Sept? Not sure...

Engine peak power HP and Torque remain the same. The mild hybrid gives a boost at low speeds, like starting off, and provides smoother restarts with start-stop tech. The 2021 M340 is rated 31 MPG highway, up 1 MPG from 2020. City and overall the same. So it seems a small MPG gain and therefore very slightly less greenhouse gas emissions. Not sure about burbles and pops, but if M440 does it with the same engine, M340 should, too.

I just picked up my 2021 m340 and it's confirmed it's a mild hybrid.
The start up and the exhaust is not as comparable to the 2020 but I actually don't mind it that much. Their are slight burbles on the 2021 at 3000 rpm. If you guys like to hear it I can record some videos at my shop. I'm sure when the tune comes out it's going to solve that issue. |
