Did the hardwire kit for your camera have a "brick" -- a step down transformer from the 12v to something less?? If so, how did you handle that? The reason I'm asking is that I just got a VioFo A129 Pro dashcam and its hardwire kit has one of those "bricks" (albeit fairly small)?

Thanks
Are you talking about that thing on the hardwiring kit that looks like a cylinder and you want to know of it can be tucked in the headliner since it is thick? If so, yes. It can be tucked in easily. When I first saw it on the Viofo hardwire kit, I was wondering how I was going to get it under the headliner. But you can pull the headliner down with your bare hands to tuck the wire inside.

The Viofo hardwire kit I am referring to is her: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQ1JYPJ...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Below is a picture of the transformer "brick" I am referring to. I was curious if you could put that brick in the headliner and use the mirror tap method, rather than going around the windshield and under dash.

Thanks

Ahhh. I didn't do any cutting. I have the Viofo hardwire kit.
In my car, that box stays hidden inside the compartment under the glovebox. I hardwired it directly to the fuse box. I didn't use the rear view mirror tap.
But yes. You should be able to put it under the headliner. When you pull on the headliner, it actually separates quite a bit, allowing you to tuck it in.

In the G20, does anyone know if each of the three (3) power sockets have 'full time power' or it 'goes off' after awhile when the ignition is turned off?

Power Socket by Cup Holders- is it always on or goes off with car?
Power Socket by Back Seats- is it always on or goes off with car?
Power Socket in the Trunk- is it always on or goes off with car?

Thank you.

In my car, it always turns off after a few minutes. It turns back on when it detects the key nearby (via comfort access).

The cup holder and rear seat power points turn off. I'm not sure about the outlet in the trunk but I'm guessing it will too.

PS - Hardwiring it isn't that difficult. If I can do it, anyone can. The worst part is the location of the fuse box in the passenger foot well. Car also has zero electrical issues (been almost two months since I hardwired it in).

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it.
I am thinking about purchasing the new BlackVue DR900X-2CH Dash Cam with CM100 LTE module which is coming out very soon. Since its not out yet I have no idea how it plays well with BMW electrical specially since I will get a Battery Pack Neo and hard wire kit is different than the 900S. The 900S was discontinued and replaced with the 900X now and is supposed to come out this week or next I believe -it is on back order.

I have a place lined up to hard wire install it; hopefully there won't be any electrical issues with it and the LTE Module and NEO Battery. I wouldn't trust myself trying to install it myself lol

Here is a link to the new blackvue 900X with the LTE Module if you or anyone is interested. It comes with a whole different hard wire kit than the older 900S which was discontinued.

Thanks for your detailed post! A dumb question, the smaller fuses
(F6X - F7X) are they Mini fuses or Micro fuses?

There is a 750S version that has LTE built in but it is only 1080p
I am running the 650S-2CH at the moment with a 4G dongle

It was fine most of the time but if you went a few weeks with light usage, I would get some strange behaviours from the electronics (handbrake fault was one) until the battery was back at full charge.

I did have one occasion after parked at the airport for a week in the winter, if flattened the battery! The dashcam was supposed to stop after 48 hours or when voltage dropped but something went wrong.

On the 340, looking to get a Cellink NEO installed in the boot. Was thinking of Thinkware U1000 but holding out to see if the T700 is released with inbuilt SIM.
Do you know if the cable from the Thinkware all the way to the NEO in the trunk is long enough? Thank you.

Fuses in G20 boot to use for dash cam?

What 2 fuses in the boot fuse box can I use to wire a dash cam in a G20 I want to have one fuse ignition switched and the other always on.

Instead of hardwiring it to the rear of the car. can you just connect it to the ODB or will that drain the car battery?

ive bought the dashcam (front and rear) but i want to connect it with minimal fuss.

Yes, an OBD connector works just fine. It will drain the battery, but that means parking mode will work, if your cam has that. The battery drain shouldn't be a concern especially if the kit you use has a voltage detector/cutoff.

Which dash cam did you buy? I use a Thinkware Q800PRO and the cable on their site, "EchoMaster OBD II Power Cable." No issues so far (3 weeks). Parking mode works for at least 12 hours, probably much longer. Can't be asked to check the recordings and figure out if it's ever hit the cutoff (I set it to 12.5V).

From the BMW Advanced Eye 2.0 installation guide, it appear that it took power from F35 from fuse box Z44 and F207 in fuse box Z2. Anyone had any idea if we are suppose to tap from this area for other brand of camera?

Brand of the camera shouldn’t matter.

Hi, I am confused about this 'voltage setting brick" (picture below-as seen in a previous poster in this thread) I received that voltage cut-off setting "brick" on my spliced hardwire cable to plug directly into the Cellink NEO... do you know why it would be required as I am not hardwiring it to a fusebox... I am just plugging the dash cam cable into the Cellink NEO and the NEO into the Cigarette lighter in the trunk... I don't know why I would need it- Because won't the parking mode sense the cigarette socket cut power off when I turn car off and enter the parking mode automatically even without the "brick"? If the brick is indeed needed I do not know what voltage to set it to cutoff as its going to be using the NEO to run the dash and will have power for hours on the NEO when parked. Sorry I'm really confused if they sent me the correct "Spliced" cable for the NEO...Thanks for your knowledgable input.

this is the "brick" I am talking about...

Not sure why you'd need the brick if you aren't hardwiring your dashcam. Ia the wiring kit the same if you wanted to hardwire it? If it is, that could be the reason.

The fuse tap has to be connected as per his picture. If it is upside down, it won't power up.

Where did you connect the ground wire to?

Solved it. You have to set the battery saving on the app otherwise the unit will not power up. Probably to stop you running battery low.
