Great write up and trip, I am actually from NC myself but it has been a long while since I have driven home rather than flying. Even though it would have never been this momentous, I always stuck to the interstate through the the mountains which I still thought was fun. One day I will hopefully get the chance to do something like your trip with some friends in my X5M, it should be fun. What really impressed me with your write up was that you all didn't have one brand of vehicle but a mix. I have to say the Genesis looked really good in the mix. Thanks for sharing!

I was definitely impressed with the Genesis after spending some time behind the wheels.

This meet had a great mix of brands and also vehicle types. Other marque owners (except Genesis guy) have or had BMW in their garage.
- Fiesta ST owner sold his E60 M5 few months ago.
- Mini owner has an previous gen 335 and preferred brining this one to the trip.
- Another person who rode with all of us, sold his 340M this summer.

Love the G80 and thanks for sharing. Looking to explore the roads around the tail this time as rumor is they are more fun than the tail itself
It was a great cabin and we enjoyed the stay. ToD was fun but we had even more fun along the other roads in the area and you will have a blast. Do share some pictures after your trip!
Cabin was decent. We did scrape a few times by that bridge and at the top of the hill going down into the driveway. A big turbo golf r and gt350 couldn't make it last minute so our group was a bit small this year. Still had a blast and can't wait to come back next year

Glad to hear that you had an amazing trip.

I've driven the dragon multiple times in the evo x and most recently, 2020 supra. Driving the TOD and the surround roads is more fun to me than driving on a track, tbh.

I plan on taking my G82 there some time in the summer of 2023. Would love to go in a group. We should definitely try to organize a group drive. I live in Illinois and it takes me about 11 hours to get down to the TOD so everyone from the midwest could probably gather somewhere in Indianapolis and then we could go as a group from there. Once in NC, usually stay at the hotel in Robinsville as it has all the accommodations (gas, grocery store, fast food).

Here is some drone footage from the most recent trip. It's a bit repetitive and obnoxious with all the spinning but we were just really testing out the new drone.

Mvading the dragon is a popular event within the community. Based on what i have heard, its a great one to do as a group.

Agreed, I've done track days and tail is actually more fun. I'd also be down for that. I'm going to be looking into mvading the dragon.

I did the tail a few times this year in my huracan. It is an absolute blast. The roads in that area are much more fun than the track. I definitely can't wait for my G80 to get here to take it out there.

Hi,

I loved the write up. The photos were great and the car looks amazing. Nice to see a mixture of cars tearing up the road.
Here in the UK, we don稚 have long drives like this being on a small island, but we certainly have some great driving roads.

I hope you don稚 mind me asking, but how much would a trip like this cost you from start to finish; fuel, food, accommodation etc. Just curious really, by all means tell me to bugger off if you壇 rather not say.

Do you have any confirmed plans for more road trips at all?

Glad you liked the report. On the other side of the pond, you can do a cross country road trip and have some fantastic options as well.

Fuel cost was $600 and the overall cost was a little less than $1500. Whole purpose of the trip was to be on the road and we didnt spend on fancy stays or restaurants.

We might plan something similar this year but we meet regularly, mostly for a day trip as we are spread across different states - Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey. Some of the regulars were missing in our last meet which happened last month and here is a picture.

Thank you for replying. I thought the the cost would have been higher to be fair.

I suppose that痴 the thing being in the US, I suppose a lot of you are spread across various states which is a challenge in its self, whereas here in the UK, we池e closer together but don稚 quiet have the road trips you can have, unless we go in to mainland Europe.

The other thing I like with your main post and reply is that there are various car brands and different types of cars shown rather than them all being the same

Last summer, most of the regulars had BMWs (M5, M3, M340, two X3 M40) and only one X3 M40 remains with the group as of now.

Love it.

And for anyone who loves driving on twisty, mountain roads, with other enthusiasts, then you should seriously consider going to this event in Tennessee at the Tail of the Dragon: https://www.mvadingthedragon.com/

I've been twice, once in my E93 and another in my G82 (and will try to go again this year), and it's a blast. It's about 40 to 60 BMWs blasting through mountain roads led by a fearless though responsible leader who lives in the area. It's 3 full days of driving (7 hours of driving each day) on a series of roads through Tennessee, North Carolina, and GA.

I was utterly fatigued, but yet fulfilled and excited, at the end of each day.

Soon I値l be picking up my m3 CS close to Atlanta and I was planning to drive back home (Chicagoland) driving through that area. Unexpectedly the car will be delivered earlier. Considering the 1200miles of diligent driving and the fact I知 not a fast driver, I値l enjoy the trip like an old dog

Speed doesnt matter and you will have a great drive on these roads.

Looks like an awesome bunch of cars and you should have had a blast. Glad to hear that you go there twice a year regularly.

I think you own the Speedster and would take that every single time.

Like you it痴 a bit of a trek to get there but well worth it.
